“Oo, we love to travel,” was Bea Alonzo’s cheerful, knee-jerk remark when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked about her favorite bonding moment with boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo.
Throughout the course of their two-year relationship, the Kapamilya couple has been to various places— seen new sights, and experienced new worlds together.
So far, one of the most memorable sojourns she has taken with her beau was their spontaneous three-day vacation to the Italian countryside.
She told PEP in an interview last February, “Most memorable for me... Florence— very romantic, quaint... quaint na city.”
Bea recalls that it was never their intention to visit Florence at all.
However, today, she is more than happy that they took that trip.
“Hindi [planned], kasi we were in Paris [France].
“We had a show in Paris, tapos I wanted to go to Venice, kasi nga parang romantic... ganyan, ganyan.
“Tapos, e, konti lang kasi yung time namin. Parang we had three days lang na free, so hindi kami puwedeng pumunta ng Venice kasi malayo, matagal ang biyahe. Hindi rin namin siya ma-e-enjoy.
“So, we had to choose between Florence and Venice, so siya [Florence] yung nanalo.
“But I’m very glad na doon kami pumunta.”
The 25-year-old actress felt that the universe had conspired to make that trip happen for her and Zanjoe, whom she doesn’t get to spend time with a lot because of their busy work schedules.
For Bea, opportunities to mix work with pleasure— like a road show abroad— are always a big blessing for her.
“Suwerte lang kasi at that time pa, it was spring, so it wasn’t that hot and it wasn’t that cold.
“So, ang ganda, tapos nagbu-bloom yung mga sunflowers. Ang ganda. Ang ganda, ganda!” she exclaimed.
“We enjoyed it so much kasi tumuloy kami ng Tuscany, so pumunta kami sa mga vineyards, nasilip namin iyong mansion ni Salvatorre Ferragamo... ganyan, ganyan.
“Kasi, hindi kami kasi pumunta doon sa parang outlet store sa may Tuscany, iyong The Mall, iyong ano...
“Hindi kami dinaan doon sa parang freeway nila. Dinaan kami sa countryside... the outskirts. Doon kami dumaan.
“Meron kaming service na ni-rent tapos dinaan kami sa mga vineyards, ganyan, so... fun!”
HOLY WEEK IN MIAMI. This coming Holy Week, Bea is hoping to take advantage of their days off from work by traveling to the US.
Where is she planning to go with Zanjoe this time?
“Gusto kong pumunta ng Miami sa Holy Week, pero hindi ko alam kung gusto niya. Gusto niya sa New York kasi nandoon ang family niya.”
South Beach is quite an unusual choice for the fair-skinned actress, who admitted in another part of this interview that she’s not particularly fond of staying under the sun.
But she had recently grown a penchant for hot and sunny Miami because, “Hindi pa kasi ako nakakapunta doon.
"Tapos nakita ko recently yung Bad Boys,” pertaining to the 1995 film, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, which she recently saw on a cable TV channel.
With Miami all set in her mind, how does Bea plan to convince Zanjoe to go with her there?
“Pinapakita ko sa kanya na iyong bahay ni Tiger Woods na nandoon.
"Sabi ko, nandito yung bahay ni Tiger Woods!” banking on her sporty boyfriend’s passion for golf and the famous athlete.
“So, ang plano namin, kung matutuloy kami, 'yong half ng itinerary golf. Tapos iyong half, kung ano iyong gusto kong gawin.”
Which to her simply means: “Shopping!”
