Good health means no alcohol for Dominic Roque

Though he has agreed to go shirtless for some scenes in May Isang Pangarap, Dominic Roque seems to refuse the idea of toning his body through professional gym training because he feels he is not yet ready to take on sexy roles.

Dominic Roque feels lucky to have a continuous streak of projects in ABS-CBN.

After the now-defunct primetime teleserye Aryana, Dominic now stars in the afternoon series May Isang Pangarap.

In an interview with the up and coming young actor earlier this year, he described to (Philippine Entertainment Portal) the role he plays in the story.

“Para sa akin, kakaiba ‘to. Medyo loud si… ang pangalan ko dito ay Cris Alvin.

“Kapatid ako ni Carmina [Villaroel], kuya-kuyahan ako ni Larah [Sabroso, one of lead kid actresses].

“Pa-poging hip-hop na pa-cute na ewan, na ayaw na mag-aral, ganito, ganyan… na gusto na lang mag-artista, ganyan.”

The good-looking Kapamilya star adds there is an air of brashness to his character, "may angas," which prompts him to appear shirtless in some scenes.

Asked how he feels about doing this, Dominic admitted that it was difficult for him to appear half-naked on cam because he is not very confident about his body.

First of all, Dominic doesn't go the gym.

“Hindi pa rin po [ako nag-gi-gym], hindi pa rin po ako ready. Siguro ngayon hindi pa ako ready for that.

“Pero kung bibigyan ako ng role na sexy or something, siguro paghahandaan ko, pero sa ngayon hindi pa muna.”

But even though he has not made efforts to tone and chisel his physique with gym training, he tries to stay healthy through other means.

“Hindi naman po ako nawawalan ng exercise, ng takbo, ng badminton, ng ganoon po.

“Kailangan fit pa rin, parang… iyon, tamang pagkain lagi, on diet.”


Is he also into the Cohen Diet like his Tita Judy Ann Santos, who famously lost weight through the strict diet system after giving birth to son Lucho a few years ago?

“No po. Ginagawa ko lang, basta huwag lang ako sosobra palagi, ‘tsaka less rice siguro.

“‘Tsaka mostly iyong exercise hindi dapat mawala talaga kasi iyon talaga nagbu-burn [ng fats] at saka nagpapabilis ng metabolism ko, e.”

Dominic’s fitness routines include the following step-by-step measures: “Usually paggising ko at bago ako matulog, nagpu-push ups ako.

"I do 40 [repetitions]. Tatlong 40 in the morning, tatlong 40 at night.

“Tapos sa pagkain ko, less carbo [carbohydrates], more protein, mga ganoon.

“‘Tsaka no drinking ng mga alcohol.”

Dominic seemed very certain about the latter, and even reiterated that, “Hindi, talaga, kasi iyon iyong papatay sa katawan ko, mga ganoon.”

Although he admits to drinking occasionally, “Siguro bibigyan nila ako ng kaunti, pero kung kailangan huwag, huwag talaga, e.

“Na-try ko na rin uminom, pero hindi masyado. Hindi ko talaga [hilig] iyong pag-inom, iyong mga yosi, mga ganoon.”

So, to keep himself from drinking, Dominic really practices self-discipline.

“Yeah, at saka [drink] more water, ganoon.”
