Fashion blogger, store owner, and budding actress Laureen Uy has a new status to add to her growing achievements.
She joins the likes of actors Enrique Gil, Matteo Guidicelli, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, and fellow fashion mavens Ava Daza and Camille Co as one of Close Up’s new breed of ambassadors.
Laureen and her group were introduced to the public during the Summer Solstice press launch, held March 5, at the White Space events venue in Makati.
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was able to catch up with the Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw star about the many facets of her young life.
FASHION IS A MUST. In the fashion blog circle, Laureen is admired for her youthful sense of style.
With close to 300,000 followers, Laureen is considered one of the most successful models in her field.
However, she admits that her success came with a little help from her older sister, celebrity stylist and fashion editor Liz Uy.
“Malaking tulong yung Ate ko sa buhay ko. Naalala ko dati, I really have to show her what I’m wearing.
“I feel comfortable with what I am wearing habang tumatagal. In a way, guidance ko rin siya,” says the 23-year-old.
Despite their busy schedule nowadays, Laureen relates that she still manages to see her sister.
“When we have the chance, like every Sunday or pag may family outing, nagkikita pa rin kami. And we exercise together.”
Though they share the same passion for fashion, Liz prefers to work behind the scenes, while Laureen doesn’t have any problem showing off her fashionista side in her newfound career in the public eye.
“It’s really more on the occasion. Every time I’m on guestings or I’m on events, kailangan siya [fashion] i-connect with everything else.”
ON ACTING. Veering away from what she and her sister are known for, Laureen continued to pursue acting after her break in ABS-CBN’s My Binondo Girl in 2011, in which she co-starred with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim.
“It’s one of the things I really love doing, aside from blogging and having an online shop, so masaya naman po talaga.”
Landing a new role in Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw, alongside topnotch actor Robin Padilla, Kris Aquino and Anne Curtis, the neophyte actress says, “Nung nalaman ko iyong cast, sobrang na-overwhelm ako.
“Kasi, siyempre, nagsisimula lang ako. Pero, iyon, sobrang maalaga kasi sila, ‘tsaka tinuturuan talaga nila ako.
“Ang dami kong natututunan, ‘tsaka nae-experience sa kanila, lalo na working with Anne.”
Performing as Esmy, Ruthie Enriquez’s (Anne Curtis) best friend in the story, she feels very well taken care of by her co-star, who happens to be one of her sister’s closest friends.
“Naku, sobrang bait no’n!
“Kasi, di ba, kabarkada po niya iyong Ate ko na si Liz, so growing up, medyo close ko na rin siya.
“Ang bait niya po talaga sa set, lalo na pag umaarte kami, lagi niya kong inaalalayan, tapos sasabihin niya iyong paano gagawin iyong eksena.”
ON LEAD ROLES AND LOVE TEAMS. When asked to identify her dream role and love-team partner, Laureen coyly answered, “Feeling ko kahit sino na lang ibigay sa ‘kin, okay naman, e.
“Kasi, to be given such a lead role, a big role, i-a-accept ko talaga ‘yan agad!”
Is she also willing to try something new and go for more daring or mature roles in the near future?
“Baka po sa ngayon hindi pa ‘ko kumportable, kasi bago pa lang ako sa industriya.
“’Tsaka, ano, feeling ko bagets pa ko,” she said gaily.
Laureen is rumored to be dating rock artist Champ Lui-Pio, vocalist of the defunct band Hale, and ex-boyfriend of actress Bianca King.

But when asked about her top crushes in showbiz, she failed to mention the name of the singer-composer.
“Um, madami. Marami naman sila. Lahat naman sila mabait. I mean, hinahangaan ko lang din,” she says about the male celebrities she admires.
“Mga mababait na kaibigan, iyong mga parang kuya ko na sa industriya ngayon.
“Siyempre, naging close 'ko dati si John Lloyd [Cruz],” who is the ex-boyfriend of her Ate Liz.
“Tapos sila Vhong [Navarro], sila Billy [Crawford]… mga nakakasama ko rin kasi sila dati, so parang mga kuya ko, lalo na nung nag-Showtime [hurado] ako.”
With TV projects and endorsement deals in tow, Laureen’s future in the celebrity world seems to be looking good, regardless if she has a love team or not.
