Even after her reign as 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up, Shamcey Supsup still continues her plight to make the world a better.
She now promotes the World Food Program campaign, launched last March 21, at fast food chain Pizza Hut in Glorietta 2, Makati City.
Following her predecessor, Venus Raj, Shamcey fully supports the program as it aims to help the less fortunate children in Mindanao, where she grew up.
“Parang ang sarap, 'no, na parang nakakatulong ka and you’re just there to be a support.
"And ang nakakatuwa pa para sakin is iyong proceeds nito is for children in Mindanao, and as a lot of people know, I’m from Mindanao, kaya nakakatuwa na nakakatulong ako sa mga kababayan ko, 'di ba?
“Just a simple [way of] sending post cards with me to children, lahat iyon mapupunta iyon sa nagawang contribution na 7.7 million is malaking-malaking bagay yan.
“Ang dami ng schools na pwedeng matulungan. Sabi nga nila 10 pesos per meal per child, ang dami na noon, 'di ba?
"So, nakakatuwa na maging parte nito.”
Even though she hasn’t been able to immerse herself in the villages involved, Shamcey is still touched to see the impact of the help they have given to the children.
“They’ve shown me pictures and mga footages 'pag pumupunta sila sa mga hard-to-reach places in Mindanao.
“It’s just that I was very busy, but sana maganda talaga kung nandoon tayo in person, so we can see how this effort is affecting a lot of children.
“Pero kahit sa video pa lang, iba na iyong pakiramdam. Paano pa kaya in person nakita mo yung happiness sa children na natutulungan natin?
"Sana, hopefully, when I get the chance, when I get to go home, makapunta ko sa lugar na iyon.”
FROM STRUTTING TO HOSTING. As another season of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant begins, Shamcey busies herself with her new career in hosting.
“Malapit na ang coronation night ng Binibining Pilipinas.
"Ang dami nilang activities, so I’m being part of it.
"Si Venus and Janine [Tugonon], we’re doing a bit of hosting for the primer of Binibining Pilipinas.
“Aside from that, I do hosting outside— mga beauty pageants in the provinces, 'tsaka iyong mga different kinds of activities that they got a host.
"Iyon iyong medyo focus ko ngayon, and I’m doing a lot of workshops when it comes to hosting.”
Shamcey discloses that they are still brewing up a new project to showcase her new hosting skills.
“We’re still working on it, pero... basta, we’re working on a show that will really be... parang swak talaga sa personality ko, kung ano ba iyong skills ko as a host.
"So, hopefully magkaroon ng ganoong break for me.”
And since hosting is not far away from the limelight of actors and actresses, when asked if she plans to push her career a little bit more to that spotlight in the future, the beauty queen shares:
“Ngayon, workshop lang muna. Ganoon muna.
"Parang nakikisingit ako sa ibang acting workshops, pero kakasimula pa lang, so hindi ko pa alam.
“Okay lang naman, sa workshop pa lang naman, e. Kumbaga, sabi nila, sa workshop doon ka dapat magkamali, 'di ba?
"It’s okay to make a mistake kasi workshop pa lang naman, e.
"You’re there to learn, so ngayon ine-enjoy ko na lang muna kung ano iyong mga work na binibigay nila sa 'kin.
“I’m just trying to push myself in a lot of things, kasi siyempre bago lang sa 'kin ‘to kasi 'di naman ako sanay na ganito ang trabaho, 'di ba?
"Pero I’m very happy now. Hindi pa siguro... hindi pa ngayon [ang pagpasok sa acting].
"Parang dati kasi talaga, sabi ko, hindi ako open with anything, 'di ba?
"But right now while I’ve tried hosting, kasi ang dami ding work before that I had to do because it’s part of my contract as Binibining Pilipinas, after that I realized masaya palang maging host.
"So ngayon, iyon muna siguro kasi iyon pa lang ang nasusubukan ko.
"Now I wanted to improve myself as a host muna, and then one at a time.
"Siguro 'pag na-try ko iyong acting sa workshop, if kaya ko naman, bakit hindi. Pero hindi ko alam, kasi hindi ko pa siya nasusubukan.
"Ayoko naman na bigla-bilga [akong] isasalang tapos hindi ko naman alam gagawin ko.”
ARCHITECT SHAMCEY. Being an architecture graduate from UP and a top-notcher, no less, Shamcey still practices her real profession when time allows her.
“I do it as a sideline. I have other people who also work with me.
"And we only get projects kung kaya lang, that are small, and usually there are deadlines and mahirap kung busy rin ako.
"Minsan sa trabaho hindi ko naaasikaso, so ayoko naman na iyong client paghihintayin. Ayoko ng ganoon.
“Ang mga tinatanggap namin karamihan mga kaibigan, mga relatives. Basta hindi ganun ka-tight iyong deadline, okay sa 'min iyon.
"At ang work namin, every weekends lang.”
BFF’s: VENUS, SHAMCEY, AND JANINE. Shamcey also clarified her relationship with fellow beauty queens that, contrary to rumors, they are still very close even after the crowns have been passed on.
“Okay na okay kami. Magkasama lang kaming tatlo kasi we were invited sa Mango Festival sa Zambales.
"Magkakasama kami, sabay kami sa car for four hours, kwentuhan.
"Kasi ever since naman, we’re from the same trainers. We’ve been together.
"Si Venus, she was like my coach when I was Ms. Universe-Philippines.
"And then, noong si Janine naman, ako iyong naging coach kay Janine.”
DO WE HERE THE WEDDING BELLS? The 26-year old Filipina beauty was also asked about her engagement to her non-showbiz boyfriend Lloyd Lee.
Are they getting nearer towards the altar?
“[I’m] very happy naman," she begins to say about the current status of their relationship.
"Well, tignan natin. Not now, but we’ll see."
Is she ready to walk down the aisle soon?
“I think so, I’m ready naman. I’m turning 27, if you guys don’t know, so..." Shamcey ends with a remark.
