Sid Lucero makes a comeback in the showbiz circuit after a six-month respite.
He said at the press launch of his new soap, Love and Lies: “[I wanted to] take it nice and slow and easy. I’d rather walk the hill than climb the cliff.”
The break was a decision he made with his girlfriend, Bea Lao, after the General Luna band drummer got knocked up late last year. Bea is now six months pregnant.
“I wasn’t able to perform properly anymore,” said the actor, who actually appeared jolly before the press.
Sid, whose last TV project with GMA-7 was the defunct afternoon soap Hindi Ka Mag-iisa, further explained, “Kasi you do your job every day and you start burning out and you’re going to take it out on your job, you’re going to take it out on the wrong people.
“So, we just basically took a step back and reassessed our priority.”
EXPECTANT FATHER. With a hearty chuckle, Sid joked about what he thought of during his leave: “Lalaki ba talaga ako? Babae ba talaga ako?”
Getting a kick out of it, the actor later took back his jesting, “Actually, the whole break was to take it easy, right? So, I wasn’t really thinking of anything too deep.
“I just relaxed and… actually kasi ano, sabay-sabay. When I found out, basically, that my girl and I were pregnant, I focused more on home. And that was it.
“I go home, watch movies, read books, take care of my girl.
“She’s still playing kasi, e. [I decided to] be the guy in the house. Yun lang yun!”
EXCITED. By the huge smile across Sid’s face, one could tell that the Gawad Urian-winning indie and mainstream actor has achieved a milestone in his life.
“I don’t even know how to explain it. Parang gusto kong mag-fast forward na lang,” stated Sid when asked how excited he is to be a father.
At the moment, he takes care of Bea by giving her “whatever she needs” and by simply “not fighting” with her.
When getting into arguments, Sid said that he automatically concedes to his girlfriend.
Laughing, he told the press, “Basta ako mali, okay na. It works!”
And despite her being the one at fault sometimes, Sid just gladly takes the blame whatever the issue may be: “Kahit ano mangyari, ako mali. Tama na yun!”
Later inquired about how his girlfriend’s pregnancy is going, Sid said that Bea does not crave for any special food: “Ako yata pinaglilihian niya, ako laging pinagtri-tripan, e!
“Mas ano siya, mahilig siya magluto, ayun. Luto lang nang luto,” said the Selda star.
Just how excited are Sid and Bea? Four months into the pregnancy, the couple had already chosen the godfathers and godmothers of their child, who they strongly feel would be a girl.
“I think it’s a girl. We think it’s a girl. The OB thinks it’s a girl. Mga 90 percent sure!”
And for sure, their first born would be named Halo regardless of the gender.
Sid related, “Ever since she always had this thing about having her first born named Halo, whether it’s a boy or a girl. Halo, which I like.
“And then, since it’s gonna ba girl, I’ll probably name her after my sister, so Halo Eve, I guess.
“We’ll see. Nothing’s sure. Malay ba natin [kung] biglang maging lalaki yun,” quipped the actor, son of actor Mark Gil and Bing Pimentel.
Does he prefer their child to be a boy?
Sid replied, “It doesn’t matter, e. Before, kaka-alam pa lang namin, gusto ko boy.
“Pero nung time na yun, nararamdaman ko na na girl, e.
“So, as long as it’s healthy,” he said finally.
SOON-TO-BE-STAGE FATHER? Sid has not quite decided if he will allow his child to enter the entertainment industry in the future.
“Ay, ewan ko lang! I don’t know, I really don’t know. I’m not going to force her to do anything she doesn’t want to do,” he said.
Sid was certain, however, “Feeling ko super spoiled siya.
His eyes shining with joy, Sid added that he sees himself as a stage dad too.
The actor said he would rather that his child make a career out of being a musician like Bea.
“Sana mapunta siya sa music side. Less intrigues, di ba? More real people.”
