“Most artists, when they’re getting in shape for a role or for a part, that’s when they get more ganado, di ba? Kapag wala kang ginagawa or wala kang project, doon ka tinatamad. Now, I have a TV show, so, I’m ganado,” says Martin Nievera, who looked stocky in November 2012 (left), but turned fit by February 2013 (right).

Martin Nievera noticeably lost weight since the last press conference of Foursome concert last February.

In fact, “Ang payat mo na!” was the common greeting to Martin of most of the entertainment reporters invited at the press conference for the repeat concert of Foursome, held March 6, at Ryu Ramen Bar on Tomas Morato Ave., Quezon City.

When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked the Philippine Concert King what prompted him to trim down his weight, Martin immediately pointed to entertainment columnist Mario Bautista.

“Dahil sa kanya, e!” he said in jest.

“Sabi ni Mario, ‘Ang taba mo!’

“Doon ko napanasin, tama pala si Mario. So, I went on a diet.”

At first, Martin said, he availed of The Sexy Chef’s healthy meals.

The Sexy Chef, owned by singer Rachel Alenjandro and her sister Barni, is a weight-loss and diet-plan provider

“Now, I try to stay away from rice and bread.”

Martin also tries to sweat it out by running on a treadmill and lifting some weights.

The singer-composer also found inspiration to lose weight in his program Martin Late at Night.

The returning talk show host said, “Most artists, when they’re getting in shape for a role or for a part, that’s when they get more ganado, di ba?

“Kapag wala kang ginagawa or wala kang project, doon ka tinatamad.

“Now, I have a TV show, so, I’m ganado,” he smiled.
