Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez hopes to inspire women to be confident with own clothing line

Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez was inspired by the modern-day, multi-tasking woman in creating her first designs. The 45-year-old model/entrepreneur says, “I imagine someone very active, someone who’s very much on the go, someone who’s busy, who needs to be with a family in short notice, in a trip, in a business trip, or even just a beach trip, you know? Ironically, supermodel Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez never saw herself designing her own clothing line before.

“I’m in the business, I started out as a model, I’m good friends with so many designers,” says the 45-year-old wife, mother, and accessories/ jewelry designer who opened a boutique last year.

Her very own TDLG store located at the Ayala Town Center features her sophisticated jewelry as well as her earthy and colorful accessories. The business venture came after consigning her designs for about 10 years.

With life continuing to surprise her with opportunities to extend her artistry, Tweetie now launches a full apparel and accessories line.

At a press launch, the quintessential morena beauty mused, “I don’t know… I’m really enjoying the ride.”

“I can’t lie, it’s a daunting challenge!” she said with a twinkle in her eyes.

“Producing a clothing line is very, very new to me. It’s not something I even thought of researching before but the idea excited me.”

Tweetie collaborates with AVA, a high-end shopping website for select brands, on the said project.

According to the supermodel, she didn't think twice about saying yes to the offer. Once she was called up and asked to exclusively design her own clothing line for the site, Tweetie committed right away.

The challenge in creating “Tweetie de Leon for AVA,” the label of the clothing line, was to come up with something different.

“It’s my logo and my name. I really tried to veer away but then again, I am one person who has the same taste.

“I still have the same style. The same things inspire me, the same things excite me,” Tweetie relayed.

What got her creative juices flowing were colors.

“I love colors!” Tweetie remarked. “Everyone who’s very close to me knows that.”

In fact, her good friend, model Apples Aberin-Sadhwani’s first comment on her designs was: “Oh, the colors are so you.”

“Colors inspired me to do this collection because it excites me,” Tweetie continued.

EVERY WOMAN. In conceptualizing her line, Tweetie thought of the multifaceted woman who can capably balance her family, career, and self.

The supermodel told, “This collection is really for everybody. I thought of every woman.

“I thought of every size, every shape, every fashion style.”

Pointing out her choice of fabric, she described her pieces as easy-to-wear and something that one doesn’t think twice about wearing.

“It’s kind of easy but in some way … it can go from day to evening, whatever you’re doing.

“It’s a no-brainer in your words. It’s easy to wear for anything, for anywhere, for everywhere!”

Tweetie added that, in her mind, those who would opt to wear her designs would feel confident and would achieve their best selves. Her sophisticated outfits feature comfort and function that make them perfect for the go-getter, modern Filipina.
