With the Fast and Furious 6 fever still running high, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) checked out one of the vehicles used by the stars of the movie in its recent red carpet premiere, held at the SM Mall of Asia last May 15.
Did you know that the Dodge Challenger STR8 driven by actress Michelle Rodriguez during the premiere is owned by our very own local talent Aljur Abrenica?
Yes, it was the same car that made it to the PEP headlines just days ago.
On May 17, PEP caught up with Aljur at the Kaisahang Buhay Foundation in Quezon City for the GMA Artist Center Mother's Day event, where he expressed how overjoyed he was about his brush with Hollywood fame.
Initially, during his shoot for PEPtalk on May 7, Aljur told PEP that he was approached by the organizers of the movie premiere that his car will be used by lead actor Vin Diesel for the event.
However, a slight change of plans led Michelle to drive his car instead.
Still, Aljur is grateful that he had the oppotunity to see the movie's stars— Vin, Michelle, Luke Evans, and Gina Carano— up close.
The Kapuso hunk, who is a fan of the movie series, told PEP that his car would be used by Vin Diesel.
He was absolutely “overwhelmed” by the idea that “nagkaroon ng opportunity na masakyan ng Hollywood star ‘yong unit ko.
“Uhm, sobrang overwhelming lang na nakapagpa-picture pa ako sa kanila.”
THE CAR. After six years of working hard in showbiz, Aljur considers the Dodge Challenger SRT8 as the most lavish reward he has ever given himself.
The 23-year-old actor admits he was never really a big fan of cars, but there was just something about this vehicle that made him covet it.
What are those factors?
First of all, this particular Chrysler Street and Racing Technology (SRT) model was used in the film.
According to the article released by Chrysler, it was used by Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, in various chase scenes.
As an actor and fan, Aljur immediately felt attracted to the car.
Its specs and capabilities also drew the former Starstruck winner's attention.
According to an article from Top Gear-Philippines magazine, written by Patrick Everett Tadeo, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 possesses the “five proven hallmarks that SRT is known for: awe-inspiring powertrains, outstanding ride and handling, inspired braking, aggressive and functional exteriors, and race-inspired interiors.”
It also boasts a maximum 93kph speed for manual transmission and 282kph for automatic transmission.
With this kind of speed, the owner’s safety is ensured by having a Ready Alert Braking system, which, still according to Top Gear’s article, “anticipates when the driver will quickly release the accelerator pedal to initiate an emergency brake stop by priming the electronic stability control pump and engaging the brakes to decrease the time required for full brake application.”
But aside from safety, car enthusiasts consider the fuel efficiency of a car.
SRT knows this, so they equipped the Dodge Challenger SRT8 with Fuel Saver Technology, though this is only available with the automatic transmission-equipped variant.
The big question is: How much did Aljur pay for it?
Well, the actor wouldn't spill that detail, but according to our reasearch, it costs about 3.95 million pesos and is exclusively distributed here in the Philippines by CATS Motors.
