Imagine this: while waiting for your flight at the airport, a man wearing a cap suddenly sits beside you.
Minutes later, you give your seatmate a second look, and realize, “Si John Lloyd Cruz pala!!!”
That magical moment happened to OFW mom Ma. Luisa “Malou” Alicaway, whose family is in Quezon province.
Not only that, the ABS-CBN actor ended the chat with a gift—a Kabuhayan package worth 50,000 pesos, courtesy of Universal Robina Corporation.
At the press launch held on July 5, John Lloyd describes the experience as “touching.”
He elaborates, “Bago namin ginawa yun, alam ko na yung parang back story niya, e. So nalaman ko kung ano yung struggle niya bago siya umalis at para lang makaalis.
“And being part of that moment and being part of this campaign is something truly to be proud of para sa akin.
“So marami pa, maraming pang parating. Hindi lang iyan.”
Speaking of the campaign, Magic Marketing Director Chris Fernandez tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “It will highlight life’s little surprises. We’re after spontaneous reactions, and we want to do this almost every month, once a month.”
MECHANICS. One recipient will be picked randomly.
Fernandez explains, “We don’t really have guidelines because it depends on the situation. We have to do your profile first, we have certain questions. Then, the whole team will discuss.”
The good thing about this "viral" project: there’s no purchase requirement.
He says, “As much as we want it to be a consumer, but it’s not necessarily a requirement. We just want random people to experience magic.”
What will be the extent of John Lloyd’s participation?
Fernandez reveals, “It’s his ideas.”
Being modest about it, John Lloyd clarifies, “Batuhan lang kami ng ideas...
“Parang nanganganak siya, dumadami yung ideas natin.
“Originally parang after nito, dalawa na lang. So parang based dun sa usapan namin kanina [July 5], sana magawa namin like every month hanggang sa mag-Pasko.”
Will Lloydie (the star’s nickname) have a hand in choosing that lucky person who will be given a magical surprise?
“No, no,” he replies quickly.
“I don’t want to be the one to choose. Baka pumili ako ng kamag-anak ko. Ako siguro, para less complicated, less problems, mas maigi kung ano… I think they’d be the better judge so sila na lang ang pipili ng recipient.”
MAGICAL MOMENT FOR JOHN LLOYD. Though he’s had his share of successful projects, won awards, and been to places, magic happens to him "every day."
"Lloydie adds, "It comes with the job.
“Simpleng makapagpa-picture kayo, mabati mo sila, makapag-hi ka, makapag-hello ka sa kanila pabalik, and then minsan, it makes their day.
“And hindi lang nila alam yung nagagawa rin nun pabalik sa amin. It’s really something special, and it’s a magical moment din para sa akin. It works two ways kumbaga.”
But being a star is magic by itself.
