Last Sunday, July 14, Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria, together with her partners Abigail del Mundo and Janssen Munoz, launched one of the first milkshake bars in the Philippines—Happy Barn Milkshake Factory at Rustan’s Fresh in Daang Hari, Las Piñas City.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press, the star of Be Careful With My Heart revealed why they chose to open a milkshake bar.

Jodi said, “We’re happy na today iyong launch ng one of the first milkshake bars in the Philippines.

“Naisip namin na Happy Barn kasi we wanted to offer na something new sa market, wherein our customers will have the freedom to choose and create their own milkshake, aside from choosing dun sa menu na meron na tayo.”

The Kapamilya actress further explained, “Kasi, number one, kung napapansin niyo wala pa rin naman talagang milkshake bar sa Philippines and we’re happy to say na isa kami sa mga naunang milkshake bars dito sa country.”

With their tag line “Drink Happy Thoughts,” Jodi wants their costumers to have a gratifying “milkshake experience.”

“What we sell, hindi lang siya basta iyong milkshake.

“It’s the experience na when you get to try our milkshake parang maha-happy ka lang na it’s a worry-free, guilt-less milkshake experience.”

MILKSHAKE FAN. Jodi admits that she is a milkshake lover—one trait that helped her during the product development stage of their brand.

Jodi shared, “Fan ako ng mga classic flavors na milkshake tapos ang ginawa namin, noong nagde-develop kami ng products na wag naman tayong mag-stick sa classic flavors.

“Sabi ko, ‘Why don’t we... parang offer the public, parang yung mga bagong flavors?’

“So meron kaming mga very Pinoy flavors, meron kaming ube milkshakes, we have chocnut-flavor milkshakes.

“Meron kaming Cookie Butter milkshakes, we also have iyong aming banana-Nutella, we have strawberry-banana.

“And also, we have our shake-and-bake category na meron kaming black forest-flavored milkshake.

“Coming soon ang aming red velvet [milkshake].”

“So, maraming flavors to choose from, at the same time, you can create your own milkshake para sa aming mas adventurous na costumers."

The actress-entrepreneur also shared that they will be using a variety of milk to cater the needs of their costumers.

Jodi said, “By next month, iyong bago naming variety ng ice cream lalabas na, which is fat-free, sugar-free, lacto-free, and fortified with pre-biotics para maka-aid sa digestion.

“So worry-free and guilt-free ang ating milkshake experience.”

Of all the milkshake selections they have on their menu, which one is her favorite?

“ Iyong aming Oreo Overjoy, siyempre iyong Vanilla Thrilla, iyong Vanilla-flavored na milkshake, and iyong Chocolate Surprise,” Jodi answered.

“Kasi iyon iyong mga unang flavors na na-develop namin.”

ACTRESS, MOTHER, AND BUSINESSWOMAN. Jodi attributes the whole process of product development to her being a mom.

She said, “I enrolled dati sa isang cooking class but doon sa paggawa ng flavors ng milkshake, siguro ang parang naging susi ko ang pagiging mom ko.

“Before, at home, we would use iyong mga brand of ice creams na existing sa market; but with Happy Barn Milkshake Factory, we formulated our own ice cream.

“Importante masarap iyong lasa ng milkshake,” Jodi further explained.

“Kailangan maganda iyong consistency, hindi siya pa-smoothie, so milkshake talaga.

“Kung gaano karaming gatas... alam mo iyon?”

Her son, Thirdy, also participated during the developmental stage of their milkshakes.

The 31-year-old actress shared, “Kasi, di ba I have a seven-year-old kid na mahilig sa milkshakes?

"So when I was developing the flavors, si Thirdy din talaga iyong aking taga-taste-test kung magugustuhan niya, so malaki rin talaga iyong participation niya.”

Aside from taste-testing, Jodi and her business partners also asked for Thirdy’s opinions for their mascot.

“Noong ginagawa namin si Cowy, siya [Thirdy] rin iyong parang kinuhanan rin namin siya ng feedback, ng comment niya.

“Kasi before kami mag-come up sa ganito, parang maraming naging itsura at naging mukha si Cowy.

“So, parang noong sinabi niyang parang ‘Mom, that’s it,’ sabi namin, ‘Ito na iyon, ito na iyong magiging mascot natin na pag nakita ng mga tao, hindi lang ng mga bata, matutuwa sila.’”

The Kapamilya actress also noted one memorable moment during their product’s development stage.

Jodi recalled, “Before we came up with our menu, talaga kumulo-kulo ang aming mga tiyan sa dami ng ice cream, gatas, at mga tsokolate na kailangan namin tikman.

“And we’re so happy na siya na na-kumpleto na siya.”

Jodi further explained, “'Pag dating talaga talaga doon sa product development, iyon kasi iyong naka-assign sa akin.

“Ayun, I just felt happy, parang creating new flavors for a milkshake factory.”

Jodi also admits that her celebrity status helped their business a lot during its early stages, “Oo din naman, siyempre, when it comes to marketing and promotions, mas madaling maka-reach out sa mga tao.

“Next month, hopefully we’re opening sa Rockwell and we’re opening one also sa Market! Market!

“Six months from now, by December, we’ll be open for franchising.

“Nakakatuwa kasi as early as now, we’ve been getting a lot of e-mails and franchise inquiries from our kababayans.

“And also, hindi lang dito sa Philippines but we’ve been getting franchise inquiries sa Singapore, Malaysia.”
