Precious Lara Quigaman, a mother of an 8-month-old baby boy and wife of actor Marco Alcaraz, has finally discovered the essence of being a woman.
The 2005 Miss International said in an interview that motherhood has turned her life 360-degrees and made her discover a great source of joy.
“Sobrang saya, I think ang makaka-understand sa akin yung mga mommies din kasi sobrang ibang klaseng joy ang mae-experience mo pag may baby ka na,” she beamed when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with her last July 19 at the Yahoo OMG! Awards, held at SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
“Ibang klaseng fear, pero ibang klaseng joy din talaga, sobrang sarap,” she continued. They named their baby Noah Lamar.
Like most moms, Lara related that her new role in life is now her top priority.
“As a woman, oo naman, iba talaga,” she began when asked how motherhood has changed her.
“Ngayon, obviously, hindi ko na talaga iniisip ang sarili ko. Talagang lahat ng ginagawa ko, I have to think of my son first talaga,” she explained.
“Sa lahat ng bagay, laging siya ang unang pumapasok sa isip ko.”
“Ang daming fears with him pero lahat yun worth it.”
Not only did Lara’s son make her a better person, but is also responsible for strengthening the foundation of their family.
“Sa relationship namin, I think parang mas naging buo kami. It’s really difficult to explain, pero parang iba… yung bond namin, mas naging close kami with the baby,” Lara said.
POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION. The beauty queen turned actress, who is also a first-time mom, recalled that she experienced postpartum depression briefly.
“I had a day of that after I got from the hospital,” she recalled, and continued that she felt overwhelmed by her new responsibility that she didn't know how to handle it.
She revealed that she experienced the depression for a short period of time when she and Marco arrived home with their first baby.
“Siyempre sa hospital may doctors, may nurses, may mga tumutulong.
“Sa bahay wala ang mommy namin pareho [ni Marco], so it was just me and Marco.
“From the hospital, pag-uwi ko hawak ko yung baby, tapos umiiyak ako. Kasi hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin ko sa kanya.
“So iyak lang ako nang iyak, tinitingnan ko lang siya, 'Ano ang gagawin ko next?' Kasi wala kaming kasama sa bahay.”
There also had been times when she felt bad about her appearance.
She said that she didn’t like what she saw whenever she looked at herself in the mirror.
“May mga moments din ako pag tinitingnan ko yung itsura ko sa salamin [tapos] sobrang ibang-iba yung itsura ko from before.”
She said that Marco would assure her that she still looked beautiful, but Lara, who was frustrated, would answer her husband and say that it was the other way around.
But those moments were over and Lara, who regained her nice figure, said that everything is better now.
“Parang madali na lang lahat, parang naka-hardwire na ang kailangan kong gawin.”
HOT MOMMA. Lara’s current physical appearance is a validation that a woman can still look good even in motherhood.
While she credits Marie France, an aesthetic center, for her “hot momma” figure, Lara revealed that she also discovered a new product that helps her deal with the stretch marks, which is common among women who have given birth.
“I have found a little secret na gusto kong i-share, pero I cannot yet. We have to wait until September, it’s coming soon,” she assured.
She added, “It’s a little secret talaga na sobrang kababaliwan ng mga kababaihan, isa ako doon, and it’s something na talagang inaantay, lalo na ng mga new moms, like me, which will help about stretch marks.”
Currently, the 30-year-old actress is part of Juan dela Cruz on ABS-CBN, where she portrays Queen Nerea, queen of the fairies.
Lara also added that she is really proud of Marco for being a good dad to their son.
“He’s very good, sobra,” she said about her husband.
“Inii-spoil niya yung baby namin. Pinag-aawayan namin kasi, halimbawa, umiiyak, awa agad, kalong agad, [sasabihin ni Marco], ‘Sige na, kawawa naman,” related Lara with glimmer in her eyes, only apparent in a woman who has found the joy of motherhood.
