Seriously. What is it with love these days?
Of late, the headlines here on PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) are splattered with “split” and “breakup,” as almost every week showbiz couples are being reported to be headed for separation or have parted ways.
It seemed to have started with Derek Ramsay and Cristine Reyes a month ago.
The couple, who only began dating on August 28, called it quits 33 days later, on September 30.
Also in September, former Viva Hot Babe Sheree confirmed that she and her live-in partner of six years, Gian Magdangal, had parted ways. The couple has a five-year-old son named Gian Hailey.
Then, Luis Manzano and Jennylyn Mercado announced that they were pulling the plug on their relationship after almost three years as a hot item.
And today, netizens are prowling for more tidbits on the breakup of Angel Locsin and Phil Younghusband.
In fact, many have resorted to joking: “Baka sa Twitter din ma-confirm iyan, tutal doon din naman sila nag-umpisa.”
LOVE, THE FULL MOON, AND MERCURY RETROGRADE. Noting how rampant celebrity splits have become these past few weeks, we couldn’t help but wonder.
Could there be an unseen force that’s causing all these?
Look to the sky, we did. The answer might be there, with the help of international astrologer and author Susan Miller.
In her website astrologyzone.com, Ms. Miller describes the month of October as “one of those months where things are likely to go off the rails.”
In her forecast for astrological sign Leo, under which Phil Younghusband was born on August 4, she writes that the month of October is bound to bring some mess in our lives.
“None of us will be immune!” the astrologer says.
Her forecast points to a troublesome full moon, which occurred in the first week of this month, for the love lives of those born under the sign of Aries.
Both Aries, Angel Locsin was born on April 23, and Luis Manzano, on April 21.
Ms. Miller writes, “[This could] reveal just how unstable one close relationship has become.
“This will come as a shock, because someone you have trusted in a close love or business partnership has been careful to keep details of his or her behavior hidden.”
The new moon last September also seemed to have affected the relationship of Sagittarian Derek Ramsay (December 7) and Aquarian Cristine Reyes (February 5).
According to Ms. Miller, those born under the signs of Sagittarius and Aquarius will become more focused in their careers and financial houses beginning September, hence giving them fewer chances to focus on their love life.
As for Taurus, the astrological sign of Jennylyn Mercado (May 15), miscommunication caused by the Mercury retrograde phenomenon could upset a romance.
Mercury retrograde, Ms. Miller explains, happens when the planet “starts turning in an apparent backward motion.”
This causes Mercury, a planet described as “highly objective” and “truth-seeking,” to lose some of its power, therefore causing problems in the area of communication.
“In matters of the heart, if your boyfriend or girlfriend breaks up with you or says something hurtful, take a wait-and-see attitude.
“Since Mercury rules speech, they may not mean what you think they are saying now. Let them have some space, and wait to see if they mean in October what they said in September,” Ms. Miller writes.
RETROGRADE COUPLES? The next Mercury retrograde will occur in the period of October 21 to November 10, but Ms. Miller says its effects could be felt days or weeks before or after that.
The last retrograde, which happened June 26 to July 20, also saw the end of celebrity couplings:
Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil, Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto, Mark Herras and Ynna Asistio, Jake Vargas and Bea Binene, and Christian Bautista and Carla Dunareanu.
It could be plain coincidence, but in the first retrograde of the year, February 23 to March 17, Ai-Ai delas Alas broke up with her husband Jed Salang.
Since the third retrograde of the year has practically just begun, does this mean we’ll be seeing more splits and breakups in our headlines?
We hope not!
Anyhow, as all astrologers tell us: Stars are not the end all and be all of things; rather, they serve as guides in understanding life.
And in the case of ex-couples, the whys and wherefores of their breakups can only be told by them and them alone, nothwithstanding what the stars say.
