Want to make Mylene Dizon happy this Christmas? A home decor piece that's stylish yet classic-looking might be something that could catch her fancy.

59 DAYS TO GO. Mylene Dizon has got some practical tips for buying the perfect presents for Christmas.

The actress spoke with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on October 26, at the Philippine Fashion Week, and she said: “Always something very, very useful.

“It depends on the person you’re giving the gift to, of course, but something that is very Filipino, as I would usually [give].

“I suggest something local, something that we’ve created, and something homegrown.”

Mylene does have quite a penchant for "homegrown" things, as on that day, when PEP.ph interviewed her, she was wearing a top and skirt made for by local designer Martin Bautista.

But when asked about what she would like to receive for the holidays, she quipped, "Me? A gift that I’d like to receive right now is a brand new car!

"But seriously, what I need right now is... something for the house.

"Because I am currently in the process of building my own home, so iyon, something for my new house."

Home decor pieces are great gift ideas because not only are they useful and practical, they also bear that "sentimental value" that other ordinary gift items don't evoke.

But when we say home decor, discard cliché items like picture frames and figurines from your thoughts—unless, maybe, they are special limited edition pieces that are really worth keeping.

Your gift could be something a little bit lavish, like this retro-looking Panthella table lamp from Danish manfacturer Louis Poulsen.

But if you find that too flashy, you can opt for smaller things, like this set—or at least a couple of pieces from it—of various kitchen utensils and kitchen drawer organizers from German brand Bulthaup.

Both Louis Poulsen and Bulthaup are available in the Philippines at Living Innovations, located at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati. Visit www.livinginnovations.ph for more information.
