Actor-athlete Richard Gomez is poised to set a record no Filipino athlete has ever attempted to achieve, which is to represent the country in four different sports.
That is, if he makes it to the final cut of the Men’s Volleyball team that will compete for the PLDT Home Fibr Asian Men’s Club Championship.
Richard has previously represented the Philippines in fencing, shooting, and rowing competitions overseas.
The Madam Chairman star already took home a Gold Medal from the 2005 South East Asian Games for Fencing.
The 48-year-old actor is set to outdo the 29 other hopefuls as he rigorously undergoes the workouts cum tryouts for a spot in the national team.
The country will host the PLDT Home Fibr Asian Men’s Club Championship happening this April 8 to 16.
“Masaya ‘yung training,” Richard told Reuben Terrado of Spin.ph during the team’s practice at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last Monday, February 24.
The multifaceted celebrity unfailingly attends the strenous training, as he said, “Nakakapagod pero we really have to prepare well kasi ang kalaban namin, malalakas.”
The Philippines will go against Iraq, Kuwait, and Mongolia in Group A of the 18-nation tournament.
If ever Richard makes it to the team, the South East Asian Games Gold medalist will make sure to give his all and win another gold for the country against the best teams in Asia.
“Siguro, we will do our best,” he told SPIN.ph.
He continued, “That is the best thing I can say.
“We are training hard, hindi ko rin masasabi na, ‘Oo, kaya namin.’
"We just have to do our best.”
As the actor is also known to be fiercely competitive when it comes to sports, it is likely that he will outdo himself in this game.
