They started out as friends and ended up as sweethearts, Divine Lee described the turn of her relationship with Victor Basa and she would not have it any other way.
She explained to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in this exclusive interview that the best thing about falling with your best guy friend is not having to go through the getting-to-know- you and best-foot-forward stages.
As she put it, “What you see is what you get, alam namin yung pinapasok naming.”
They have known each other since they were teens, so did they ever see each other as sweetheart potential?
Her quick reply, laughing, “Asa pa sya!”
And added just as quickly, “I think that’s one of our strengths because we always saw each other as a good friend that will last our lifetime.”
DIFFERENCES. Divine Lee teasingly described Victor Basa, whom she affectionately calls V or Vic, as “uncool” during their teenage years.
“Ako yung cool, I have always been full of energy naman, mas emotional si Vic and quiet, same when we were younger.
"I’m not so secretive, eh, it’s more V who’s quiet and mysterious.”
Being barkada when they were younger, Divine admitted they weren’t very open about their relationship with their peers.
“Alam na naman ng lahat when we realized we liked each other.
"Tinago pa namin sa barkada because we knew they would be against it, medyo matagal din yun bago na-accept.”
LONG-LASTING. Divine then related the secret of their long-lasting relationship, “Laughter and strong friendship foundation."
"We make each other laugh at the simplest things.
“And I think when we are old and wrinkly, that’s a good trait to have.
"More wrinkles nga lang at laugh lines,” Divine said, indicating that she intends to grow old with Victor.
Moreover, “We know each other’s sumpongs and quirks and we already accepted that.”
WEDDING BELLS. Will they tie the knot soon, “I tied the knot of his shoelace kanina," Divine wittingly evaded the question.
But seriously, “We talk about it but so far it’s not in the near future.
"Not for anything but, I guess, we are both super busy now… I need a couple more years.”
Divine Lee is taking her master’s degree at the Durham University, “I don’t want to get married while I’m in school and finishing my term papers on my honeymoon.”
But envisioning her wedding day, she admitted, “I’m not really fond of big parties and extravagant weddings.
"I never celebrated my debut and I don’t usually throw a party for my birthday. I think the same goes for my wedding.”
She described her dream wedding as something “simple, sweet and fun,” and hinted that “a trip to the beach would be nice!”
