Aside from acting, Richard Gomez wants to be good at hosting game shows. From doing Family Feud on GMA-7 in 2008 to The Biggest Game Show in the World (Asia) on TV5 in 2012, he is set to host the local version of Quiet Please! starting August 10 at 8 p.m.

Richard Gomez is 48 but shows no signs of slowing down.

He is, at present, the only Pinoy athlete to don the national colors in four different sports: rowing, fencing, target shooting, and volleyball.

Thanks to his dedication and discipline, he has remained active and maintained his lean physique.

At the pocket press conference of TV5 for his upcoming game show Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay last July 25, he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “You have to start early. Hindi puwede yung nakaramdam ka ng high blood, dun ka pa lang [magiging healthy].

“You have to start young. E, ako bata pa lang ako, high school, nag-track [na ako] and [I was] into sports. Hanggang ngayon, nagdya-jogging pa rin ako.”

Here are ten things that add up to Richard Gomez’s timeless appeal:

1. “I stopped counting at 35, and it’s been 5 years,” he said with a laugh.

2. He doesn’t have a beauty secret. “Wala, ano lang ako, positive outlook lang ako palagi at saka masaya lang ako lagi.”

3. A must-have in his grooming routine: “Konting moisturizer sa gabi.”

4. “Sa food… saging! Ma-fruits ako. Nakakita ka na ba ng unggoy na may taghiyawat?”

5. He stopped playing golf, partly, due to vanity.

“…Init e, nakakasira ng skin,” he confessed.

“Hindi, totoo nga. Nung medyo bagets-bagets, golf ako nang golf, siguro mga three years. Kinumpare ko yung mga pictures nung mga [guys in their] 50s na naggu-golf, naku, nagkaroon ako ng [hesitation]. ‘O, bawas muna tayo ng golf.’

“Ayaw ng pangit, baka magkaroon ako ng wrinkles, ‘di ba.”

6. Still in a jolly mood, Goma said he doesn’t mind being paired with younger stars.

“Gusto ko nga ng younger, e.”

The actress that comes to mind? “Puwedeng Kim Chiu.”

7. His failed election bids have not, in any way, turned him into a cynic.

He’s been happy supporting his wife Lucy Torres, representative of Leyte’s fourth district.

“Siguro pag dumating yung time. Mahirap kasi kapag sabay-sabay. Imagine mo, mula election, kapag nanalo ako, ‘di ang dami kong 'di na-accomplish!

“Hindi ako nakapag-movie, wala ako sa TV show ngayon.

“Imagine, nakapag-member pa ako ng national team ng volleyball.”

PEP asked, “Ayaw mo na talaga?”

Richard answered, “Hindi naman, kasi si Lucy is there na… Siguro, I think, pagkatapos niya, ako naman papalit sa kanya."

8. He believes in team effort. In a nutshell, he and Lucy came up with plans for Ormoc.

“Ideas, kailangan may idea ka kung ano ang gusto mong gawin. Second, kung achievable yung idea mo.

“Kasi kung achievable, one thing good kapag nasa isang elective position ka, you have full resources from the government kaya mas marami kang natutulungan.”

9. Richard is not afraid to speak his mind.

“Sa sinasabi nilang hindi mo kailangan ng position para makatulong, hindi totoo iyon…You have to use the resources of government, and you have to be in a position to be able to do that.”

On what happened to Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla, “Sad na nandoon sila sa piitan, siyempre wala naman gustong ma-preso, e…

“Pero the brighter side of that, mayroon silang chance to prove themselves na hindi sila guilty. Kaya lang, ang haba ng proseso na iyon.”

On President Noynoy Aquino and DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program)?

“Naku, hayaan mo na yun. Problema na nila yun. Basta ang sa akin, basta ang pera ng bayan, for as long as nagagamit nang tama para sa mga tao," he said.

Goma added, "Makikita natin kung papasa sa Senate at kung papasa sa House, sa Congress.”

10. Can he say he’s a complete man?

“Ako, siguro marami pa rin naman akong gustong i-achieve.”

In sports?

“Tama na muna iyon.”

In showbiz?

“Siguro improvement sa craft as an actor. Kailan ba ako huling nanalo ng award? Tagal na!”

He clarified, “You know when I do film, hindi ko iniisip yung award-award. Hindi, kasi kapag ganun ang ginawa ko, masyado akong mali-limit.”
