Richard Gomez is 48 but shows no signs of slowing down.
He is, at present, the only Pinoy athlete to don the national colors in four different sports: rowing, fencing, target shooting, and volleyball.
Thanks to his dedication and discipline, he has remained active and maintained his lean physique.
At the pocket press conference of TV5 for his upcoming game show Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay last July 25, he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “You have to start early.
“You have to start young. E, ako bata pa lang ako, high school, nag-track [na ako] and [I was] into sports. Hanggang ngayon, nagdya-jogging pa rin ako.”
Here are ten things that add up to Richard Gomez’s timeless appeal:
1. “I stopped counting at 35, and it’s been 5 years,” he said with a laugh.
2. He doesn’t have a beauty secret. “Wala, ano lang ako, positive outlook lang ako palagi at saka masaya lang ako lagi.”
3. A must-have in his grooming routine: “Konting moisturizer sa gabi.”
5. He stopped playing golf, partly, due to vanity.
“…Init e, nakakasira ng skin,” he confessed.
“Hindi, totoo nga. Nung medyo bagets-bagets, golf ako nang golf, siguro mga three years. Kinumpare ko yung mga pictures nung mga [guys in their] 50s na naggu-golf, naku, nagkaroon ako ng [hesitation]. ‘O, bawas muna tayo ng golf.’
“Ayaw ng pangit, baka magkaroon ako ng wrinkles, ‘di ba.”
6. Still in a jolly mood, Goma said he doesn’t mind being paired with younger stars.
“Gusto ko nga ng younger, e.”
The actress that comes to mind? “Puwedeng Kim Chiu.”
7. His failed election bids have not, in any way, turned him into a cynic.
He’s been happy supporting his wife Lucy Torres, representative of Leyte’s fourth district.
“Siguro pag dumating yung time. Mahirap kasi kapag sabay-sabay.
Richard answered, “Hindi naman, kasi si Lucy is there na…
8. He believes in team effort. In a nutshell, he and Lucy came up with plans for Ormoc.
“Kasi kung achievable, one thing good kapag nasa isang elective position ka, you have full resources from the government kaya mas marami kang natutulungan.”
9. Richard is not afraid to speak his mind.
You have to use the resources of government, and you have to be in a position to be able to do that.”
On what happened to Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla, “Sad na nandoon sila sa piitan, siyempre wala naman gustong ma-preso, e…
“Pero the brighter side of that, mayroon silang chance to prove themselves na hindi sila guilty.
On President Noynoy Aquino and DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program)?
10. Can he say he’s a complete man?
“Siguro improvement sa craft as an actor. Kailan ba ako huling nanalo ng award? Tagal na!”
He clarified, “You know when I do film, hindi ko iniisip yung award-award.
