James Reid came to the Philippines from Australia with only one thing in mind—to take care of his father. He wanted to make friends, too, and so he joined the 2010 Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash. It became clear that the Fil-Australian was meant for bigger things when he emerged the grand winner of the reality show. This was followed by a few shows, song albums and two full length films.
At 21, James is now a rising young celebrity. His biggest break came when he starred in Diary ng Pangit: The Movie with Nadine Lustre.
The success of their love team resulted in their most recent movie, Talk Back and You’re Dead.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) chatted with James at the recent AMA Shout Out concert and dance competition, which was held last August 23 at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City.
Asked about his relationship with Nadine, the young actor told PEP, “I do really like Nadine, she’s a really sweet girl.
"Right now, I’m not looking for a relationship, but we’re close."
About a possible next project, he said “not sure yet” but added he was “really open to anything.”
How does he feel about being compared to other famous young male actors like Daniel Padilla, who also has an album.
James was modest in his reply, “We have the same target audience.
"Daniel is the number one teen artist, it’s good for me to be compared to him, and it’s really flattering."
He was into singing and songwriting before he was discovered as an actor, his face lighting up when he was asked about his music, “I’m quite sure I have another album coming out this year.
KEEPING FIT. James Reid has evolved from a skinny 16-year-old PBB housemate into a young adult with a toned physique. He’s even appeared topless a few times onscreen.
Is he this confident about showing off his abs? “I’m actually a bit nervous."
Still, he is getting ready for the upcoming Cosmo Bachelor Bash.
“Joseph Marco is a good friend of mine, and he’s done it before.
"He said it’s really fun, and we’re doing it together so we’re both excited for September," he related.
But with his busy showbiz schedule, does he have the time to work out regularly?
He replied, “I should be but I haven’t had the time, maybe in the next week I can start working out again. I have a month to go."
