“Hindi ako ma-drama. Ayoko ng negative vibe!”
That’s what TV host-actress Carmina Villaroel screams when asked about her dramas in life. Such positivity echoes her “no more OFW drama” campaign for Smart Sulit IDD Card over lunch with the entertainment press at Romulo’s Café in Quezon City last September 18, Thursday.
Her latest campaign offers Filipinos the more affordable and simpler way to contact their loved ones abroad. And it perfectly suits her overseas call needs with her sister based in the USA.
“Kamusta, kamusta sa mga buhay,” giggles Carmina about her usual tele-conversations with her sister abroad. “Kinakausap ko siya once a week, about life… Kung anu-ano lang… Girly stuff.”
Carmina lived abroad during her pregnancy until giving birth to her twins Mavy and Cassy. So she exactly knows and understands what Pinoys abroad go through. But did she consider living abroad at that time?
“Naisip ko yan when I was pregnant… I was planning na nandun na ko. Feeling ko wala na akong career na babalikan dito… But then again siguro ‘yung tadhana dito talaga.”
While she hypes on affordable ways to communicate with Pinoys abroad who are mostly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Carmina never scrimps her budget on food and education of her children. The twins are enrolled in an international school. And she really wants her kids to finish college. That’s why she is not keen on the idea of making showbiz a career for them.
But she and husband Zoren Legaspi are proud of their kids’ talents. Mavy and Cassy do commercials and TV guesting in between their schooling.
“May fan page na sila… Natutuwa ako. At least, naa-appreciate nila ‘yung kambal… So I always tell them to be thankful.”
The Kapamilya actress is thankful for all the blessings that come her way – including a new baby. But as told to Kris Aquino, she admits that she is not taking pills.
“Hindi naman kami nagkukontrol… Hindi kami nagpaplano.”
For now, Carmina is busy taking care of her family. And she is happy with her guest hosting for Kris TV “[dahil] less pressure sa akin.”
But accordingly, a new project is in the works for her. If it’s a teleserye, then drama is part of the package. That, obviously, Carmina can’t say no to.
