Designer-to-the-stars Francis Libiran adds another feather to his cap as the first Pinoy to design for a globally-acclaimed flip flops brand.

Bungad ng internationally acclaimed designer, “I'm overwhelmed and very proud to be the first Filipino to design for Havaianas.

“Siyempre, keeping that in mind, I have to put my Filipino stamp on it.

“We've been doing this for a year now—the planning, designing, approving the designs, I go back and forth from Manila to Brazil, it's very exciting.”

Dugtong pa niya, “Iconic Filipino patterns like the jeepney, the sarimanok, the maskara...para distinctive nga na very Filipino ang dating.”

BIG FAN.

Napapangiting saad niya, “When they approached me, I told myself I really have to do this no matter what.

“Nag-set sila ng meeting with me, they told me kung ano ang mga dapat gawin.

“So I gave them ten designs for them to approve, pinadala yun sa Brazil, and then finally, na-approve sa Brazil.

“It went smoothly.”

Aniya, “I guess, they have plans to [sell] them outside the country, e.

“So yun nga, we have the city design, which is the front of a jeepney; the festival, which is the Maskara Festival; and the island design, which is the sarimanok.”

PINOY LOOK.

Paliwanag naman niya, “As a designer, you have to have a distinct look.

“And by developing that distinct look, may ginawa akong pattern, which is the art-deco pattern...

“Then, [adding] the jeepney, maskara, and sarimanok.

“Basically, in-integrate ko lang silang dalawa.”

CHARITY.

Tugon niya, “Well, we have plans naman.

“Definitely, we give to charity.”

DIVERSIFICATION.

Sabi naman ni Francis, “Well, I guess this is just a beginning...

“Then, siguro soon, they will have it for shoes, furnitures, bags, or anything about lifestyle.

“This is just the beginning.”
