Janine Gutierrez is blessed with smooth unblemished skin.
“I actually have to admit na I don’t have any parang regimen. All I know is that you should drink a lot of water, and get enough sleep."
This she shared in an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after her PEPTalk shoot last April 16 at the GMA network center executive lounge.
Janine also revealed that she recently learned how to use make-up.
“Actually naubos ‘yong moisturizer ko mga a month ago, hindi pa ako bumibili. 'Tapos ngayon lang din ako natututong mag-make-up because Shu [Uemura] made me an ambassador so I have to try it.
“So now, I’m forced to learn, kasi sayang naman, 'di ba? Maganda yung mga cleansers nila. Actually yun yung ginagamit ko before. Make-up remover 'tsaka cleanser.”
What lipstick is she wearing?
“This is Lancome. Sa totoo lang kasi, 'di ako mahilig mag-make-up. But since artista, palagi kang naka-make-up, natuto na rin ako unti-unti.
“And then kanina, na-realize ko, ang dami ko palang red lipstick. Mga pito. Kasi they [advertisers] send you stuff to try. I'm lucky.”
Her best beauty asset are her big, bold eyebrows.
The Twiggy lookalike said that in her younger years, she used to get teased a lot because of her bushy eyebrows. But now, they've become her beauty asset.
"Pero dati, sobrang I used to get teased kasi ang kapal kapal ng kilay ko nung grade school and high school. Pero ‘yon pala, mas okay pala. Pero kailangang i-maintain siya palagi kasi pag pinabayaan mo, then babalik siya sa dati.”
FASHION TIPS. For the simple and classy outfit she wore during the shoot, she did not consult a stylist.
She is also gracing the cover of Preview magazine this May.
What fashion and style tips can Janine share with PEP readers?
“[First,] wear what you like. Don’t let anyone else dictate what you should wear, kasi di ba madalas nagpapa-pressure tayo sa mga uso. Feeling ko, it’s about being happy with your own style.
“[Second,] always be comfortable."
A graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, the pretty actress said she was always wearing shorts to school because they're cool and comfortable.
“I live in shorts, as in denim shorts, ‘tsaka white shirt, ‘yon talaga ‘yong favorite ko ever since.
“I think naging habit ko siya nung college kasi sobrang init sa school, wala naman kaming aircon sa Ateneo. So talagang lahat ng tao naka-shorts lang," she said.
“[Third,] don’t be afraid to take risks. If something doesn’t look inviting, pero you’re interested, give it a try. Nothing to lose naman, 'di ba?”
The most risky thing she did for fashion?
“Sa mga shoot. Like, the last shoot I did, sobrang gi-nel yung hair namin, 'tapos ginawa siyang braid, para siyang naka-weave, para kang may turban of your own hair.
“Sabi ko parang ‘Anong nagaganap dito?’ Pero nakakatuwa kasi if you trust who you’re working with, it comes out surprisingly well. Usually, all of the time, so tiwala lang," she narrated.
“[Fourth], I think you should always have a lot of classics na pwede mong i-mix and match.”
Fifth, the best accessory that goes with any outfit is "a smile,” she said.
