Isa itong fast-penetrating liquid solution that can brighten your skin, improve its texture, and reduce the appearance of pores sa pamamagitan ng pag-hydrate at pagtanggal ng dead cells.

Ayon sa interbyu ng Allure kay Charlotte Cho, isang licensed aesthetician at co-founder ng Korean beauty website na Soko Glam, toner can "bring your skin back to its natural acidic state, sweeping impurities away, and helping your skin absorb your skin-care products."

She adds, "Your skin is like a dried-up sponge. If you put a thick cream on a brittle dry sponge, it won't accept it and it isn't 'prepped' for moisture.

"But if you wet the sponge, the cream will sink in more easily."

On the plane, I dampen cotton pads with toner and put on lotion twice as much."

Ang toner ay bahagi rin ng five-step skin-care routine ni J-Hope: "[In the morning, I use] toner and face cream. [At night, the steps are] toner, essence, acne care, lotion, cream."

WHAT MAKES A GOOD TONER?

But before you buy a toner for yourself, you have to read the label and its list of ingredients.

Aniya, "It should be colorless 'tapos walang masyadong glitters o pampa-shine ng skin. Mild lang, ibig sabihin."

May iba't ibang formulation rin sila depending on your skin type and skin concern.

Narito ang recommendations Dr. Valencia:

Kung meron kang acne, a toner should help dry it.

"Look for toners with AHA or alpha hydraulic acid, gaya ng lactic acid o glycolic acid.

"You can also have toners with Beta hydroxy acid, like your salicylic acid.

"Anything that can dry your pimples or acne."

These ingredients also have other benefits sa skin.

"So kahit iyong mga plant extracts lang like scintilla, lavender extracts, chamomile, green tea.

WHAT TO AVOID IN TONER

"Ang problem kasi with that, those two medications can make your skin thinner, so it can get damaged with the sun," sabi ni Dr. Valencia.

"When you use those two medications, you have to apply sunblock."

"The tendency of our skin kasi, if it detects that it's becoming too dry, it will tend to produce more oil to address that problem.

"Kaya it's best to consult a board-certified dermatologist," she stresses.
