If many of us miss going to beauty salons, their owners are in worse predicament going three months now from the time COVID-19 has halted customer-based operations.
With them in this endeavor are their sisters actress Shaina Magdayao and Sheryl Magdayao, who both co-own Ystilo's branch in SM Mall of Asia,
Not only have they paused the operations of all their branches nationwide, the siblings also had to postpone the grand opening of new branches in La Union province and in Fairview Terraces, Quezon City.
Vina told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "I was worried and sad at the same time because everything was already planned.
"When the Malacañang announced the ECQ, our mall admin emailed and notified us that the last day of operations would be March 16.
"Of course, I was sad when I heard it, but I understood that it is for everyone's safety.
"For now, let us wait and see. If the situation is back to normal, then we proceed with our plans."
This exchange between Vina and PEP.ph happened on June 16, 2020, via Viber.
Vina continued to say she has been remitting her staff their full salary.
She said, "We sent their salary though Palawan Pawnshop at that time.
"Our branches outside Metro Manila are mostly franchises. Our franchisees took care of them, especially with their boarding, lodging, and food.
"The benefits like SSS, all the staff received them from the government."
YSTILO SALON IN THE NEW NORMAL
On June 7, 2020, the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 announced that salons and barbershops may reopen, but with some restrictions.
They are limited to basic hair cut services to clients.
Ystilo Salon opened some of their branches on the same day, allowing "only clients to go inside the salon."
With this provision, Vina and Shaina also assured, "We are very concerned about our staff and clients' health that's why we follow the safety measures and guidelines given by the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) and mall admin."
They also require their staff to wear "face masks, face shields, hairnet, and gloves at all times."
Bottles of alcohol are placed in areas easily accessible to customers, and the crew checks the body temperature of customers entering the salon.
Everyone in the staff is required to bring extra clothes to change into before and after work.
Vina said, "We already passed the DTI's protocols, we are just waiting for the go signal of other malls for us to open our other stores."
