Add entrepreneur to the multi-hyphenated title of actress/screenwriter/TV host/celebrity endorser Bela Padilla.
Bela has just launched a Seoul-based skin-care company called Britory as co-owner with partners Dongwoo Kang and Wonyoung Ryu.
At the digital press launch of Bela as the face of Britory last Thursday, September 17, 2020, she bared it was her love for Korean drama and K-beauty that goaded her to get on board the new company and brand.
She said, "All of my followers know this, I’ve been such a K-drama, K-beauty fan for years now.
"Like, I really jumped on the K-drama train. I’ve watched everything you can watch Korean-related on Netflix."
ARE BRITORY PRODUCTS AVAILABLE IN SOUTH KOREA?
Britory products will also be sold in South Korea, but Bela isn't sure yet if her face will be used to promote the products over there.
She quipped, however, "My gosh sana makita naman ni Gong Yoo yung face ko. Echos lang!"
Gong Yoo is a South Korean actor who starred in popular K-dramas such as Goblin and Coffee Pince.
She went on to reveal more to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in this exclusive interview after the digital launch.
Bela gave away, "Ang Korean crush ko talaga is si Kang Ha Neul... Kung mapapadalhan ko lang Britory si Kang Ha Neul, masaya na ako."
Kang Ha Neul, another popular South Korean heartthrob, has starred in numerous dramas, among which were When the Camellia Blooms, To the Beautiful You, and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS OF BRITORY?
Bela said she felt "kilig" when her would-be partners approached and proposed to her a business collaboration "with a Korean company that was already big in their market."
She told PEP.ph, "They're actually the makers of CosRx. They have a huge range of different kinds of beauty products or skin care lines.
"I know that they also have Skin Food under their belt. They know what they're doing, basically, and I'd like to work with people who know what they're doing.
"I, too, only like to move when I'm confident of what I speak about or what I represent."
Bela said her business partners have formulated the serum and the gel-based cream for her products.
She elaborated, "They asked me if I wanted to do masks firsts for cosmetics or something to do with nail care.
"Those are things na I use, yes, pero parang it's not something I'm very excited about or it's not something I'm too enthusiastic to push or try, I guess.
"When they told me something about the serum and the cream, they said na they formulated something specifically for me, which I found super exciting.
"When they showed me the serum and cream, 'Okay, that's me!' I like those two especially the serum. I fell in love with the packaging instantly.
"I love kasi na it's not so girly. It's actually unisex. Men can use it as well. But it's so cute.
"It's very Korean. It fits my bags, my purses. So dito, parang na-in love na ako."
Bela tested the products for weeks with her consultant Pia Campos to make sure that they suit all skin types and will work well with the Pinoy skin.
ARE BRITORY PRODUCTS AFFORDABLE?
The Viva talent also wanted assurance that her products will be priced for the mass market.
"I want to represent something na people can use.
"If it's something too expensive, then the market that, I think, follows me or watches my films won't be able to afford the skin-care products.
"And that would make me sad because I want them to actually benefit from this.
"They've been supporting me for years and I want to give something back as well."
WHAT IS THE SELLING POINT OF BRITORY PRODUCTS?
Britory is a portmanteau of "bright" and "laboratory," a blend of words that Bela concocted for the name of the brand.
Currently, it two products—the Like Snow Cream for Glass Skin and Like Snow Serum for Glass Skin.
According to Bela, both products promise to have "glass skin that glows like snow."
She also clarified that the serum and cream are not whitening products, "We do not aim to whiten skin with our products.
"We aim to make your skin glow. Those are two very different things.
"We like to embrace all skin colors and these two products are compatible with all skin types and all skin colors.
"One of its beautiful 'side effects' is that it makes you look like your skin is brightened.
"It does not change the color of your skin, instead it makes your skin glow and it makes your skin look healthy."
The products have three key ingredients—Niamicide, Arbutin, and Glutathione—that help address skin problems such as uneven skin tone, dryness, and discoloration.
Bela said, "Most products out there have one of the key ingredients we have but we combine all three in our tiny bottle.
"I think my favorite is Niacinamide. People don't know but this is a huge form of Vitamin B3, which is so good for your skin.
"It has also Glutathione, of course, which we're so familiar at this point. It's a great antioxidant...
"We can assure you that your skin will glow after you use our serum and our cream."
For Bela, starting her business in the middle of the pandemic has gone on smoothly because she has been working with experts and professionals.
She said, "Honestly, ito na yung isa sa mga projects na madali for me because everyone is so easy to work with, everyone is so professional.
"Every time we asked something from the Korean team, whether it was product-related or how we would deal with this marketing-wise, they would consult us about what would be comfortable with us.
"Then they gave us options. And we gave them options in return.
"There were a lot of back-and-forth [consultations] so, definitely, that entailed hard work.
"But it was so smooth, We didn't run into any major problem... Knock on wood, sana walang bump along the way."
