Gabbi Garcia loves to flaunt her morena skin.

At the press conference of IRL, her new youth-oriented reality show, held on Thursday, November 5, 2020, the 21-year-old actress-host recounted the moments that made him proud of her skin color.

She called them "breakthroughs."

One was when she landed on the cover of Preview magazine.

Gabbi recalled, "Siguro iyong nagka-magazine cover ako sa Preview. It's titled as Golden. And sa Summit Media din iyong Preview.

"Iyon ata iyong unang beses na feel na feel kong tinanggap ako ng industriya na morena ako. That was 2017."

The fashion magazine hailed Gabbi as the season's "Golden Girl" in its April 2017 issue. Her cover was shot by BJ Pascual at the luxurious Bayside Villa of Solaire Resort and Casino.

Her second most memorable moment was when a shampoo brand chose her as its global ambassador.

She told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Actually, parang breakthrough year ko iyong 2017.

"In-introduce nila ako dun as Filipina and talagang in-embrace nila kung ano ang features ng isang Filipina."

But the major breakthrough for her happens each time she receives messages from fans about how she inspired them to be more confident with their kayumanggi skin.

She said, "When people started messaging me, telling me that I inspire them for their skin color, for loving themselves. Iyon iyong pinaka-pinaka-number one siguro.

"I've been receiving messages na parang, 'Gabbi, dahil sa iyo in-embrace ko kulay ko,' or stuff like that. Iyon iyong pinaka-touching sa lahat."

In September 2019, Gabbi openly talked to celebrity photographer BJ Pascual about the colorism she experienced in the showbiz industry when she was starting her career.

Those experiences took a toll on her confidence, but they didn't stop her from embracing her morena skin.

She recalled, "When I entered the industry, I was in 4th year high school, graduating ako. Nung high school ako, I didn't care that much about skin color. Parang wala lang siya sa akin.

"'Tapos nung pumasok ako sa industry, dun ko talaga na-figure out na... in the industry maraming mga sabi-sabi na, people who are gonna say na, 'Alam mo kailangan mo magpaputi para makuha ka ng ganito...' or 'Mas okay kapag maputi ka.'"

She added, "Doon ko na-realize the importance of loving yourself and your skin color, na hindi ka magpapa-sway sa ibang tao."
