The newest Miss Globe 2021 is our very own Maureen Montagne.
Besting 49 candidates, Maureen was crowned on the night of November 5, 2021, at the Opera House in Tirana, Albania.
Maureen is the third Filipina to win the title, after Maricar Balagtas in 2001 and Ann Colis in 2015.
Born as Maureen Ann Montagne, the Filipina-American beauty was born on July 10, 1993, in Chandler, Arizona. The 5'7" stunner attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
Aside from being a model and a beauty queen, Maureen is also an events host. One of the biggest events she hosted was Manny Pacquiao's first Concert of Champions held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Maureen Montagne: The Making of a Beauty Queen
Maureen's beauty pageant journey started in 2013, when she joined Mutya ng Pilipinas and finished first runner-up.
Her first major win came in 2014 when she represented the city of Tempe at the Miss Arizona USA pageant. Maureen bagged the crown and earned herself a spot in the Miss USA 2015 competition, where she placed in the Top 15.
In 2017, she competed in the Miss World America pageant and placed first-runner-up.
The following year, she tried her luck in Miss World Philippines 2018, where was crowned as Miss Eco Philippines 2018.
Miss Eco International 2019
At the Miss Eco International 2019 pageant held in Cairo, Egypt, Maureen represented the Philippines and placed first runner-up. The winner was Ms. Peru's Suheyn Cipriani, who was later dethroned due to pregnancy.
In a Facebook post, Maureen wrote (published as is):
“'Always remember, your focus determines your reality'- George Luca
"Recently I’ve had to make some unexpected and important decisions. First and foremost, I want to say that this past year, I have poured my heart and soul to Binibining Pilipinas. I am eternally grateful for everyones support on my pageant journey and I would like to say - I’m sticking with it.
"I have made a commitment to the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. full heartedly and I will continue to chase my dreams of competing on the BBP stage in the hopes of representing our country on the international stage.
"I am thankful for the opportunities I have been offered this week by the Miss Eco International Organization to whom I will always be thankful to, but I know deep down I need to do what’s right in my heart. I sincerely wish the woman who will take the crown a wonderful reign ahead.
"I hope that everyone is safe and healthy during these trying times...
"Always remember to follow your dreams?"
In an Instagram post, he wrote (published as is):
“As Miss World Philippines National Director, I am greatly saddened to hear that Miss Eco International 2019 1st Runner-Up Maureen Montagne declined her privilege as the rightful successor of recently dethroned Miss Eco International 2019 Suheyn Cipriani from Peru.
“Being the next in line, she was automatically qualified to wear the prestigious crown which would have brought glory to our country, would have given her the rare opportunity to become United Nations Ambassador for Ecotourism, and possibly would've made pageant history with the country's back-to- back wins for Miss Eco International 2018-2019.”
For Vegafria, Maureen's move was a "conduct unbecoming of a beauty queen". Despite this, Vegafria still sent his blessings and wished her luck in her future endeavors.
The Road to Miss Globe 2021
Maureen pursued her Binibining Pilipinas dream and represented the province of Batangas in the pageant. She was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2021, which then paved the way for her Miss Globe 2021 journey.
Donning a sampaguita-inspired national costume, the 28-year-old beauty slayed the Miss Globe 2021 pageant, placing first runner-up in pre-pageant competitions, namely People's Choice, Miss Bikini, and Head to Head challenge. Her win was sealed during the Q&A portion.
“Do you think beauty is a merit and how can we enrich it with other values?” asked Miss Globe 2019 Alejandra Diaz de Leon of Mexico.
Here was Maureen's answer:
“I think true beauty comes from within. To be a Miss Globe is to be a beauty that inspires.
"What makes us beautiful is our smiles, what we do for our community, it’s how we give back to others, and it’s how we carry ourselves through lives.
“I believe that everyone has beauty inside of them, and I believe it’s our duty to share it with the world and to give back and to truly inspire others.”
