Being an actress, Jodi Sta. Maria has alway been meticulous about caring for her skin.
Skin care was one of the topics during an interview with Jodi by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last November 22, 2021, in connection with her role as Dr. Jill Ilustre in The Broken Marriage Vow, ABS-CBN's upcoming prime-time drama series.
The Broken Marriage Vow is the Kapamilya network's remake of the hit British series Doctor Foster, which also had a Korean remake titled A World of Married Couple.
Jodi said it was important that she had a deep facial to restore lustre to her face before she started the lock-in filming of the series in Baguio City .
She explained, "My beauty routine now really helps me a lot. ‘Cause ang daming close-up. As in extreme close-up ni Dr. Jill.
"So I think, let's say sa hydration and moisture na bini-bring back ng skin-care products,
"I think my lines would be more visible sa camera, especially that we use HD [high definition] now. So, kitang-kita talaga."
The 39-year-old actress further said it's been part of her routine to de-stress after filming all day as her energy level is always up on the set.
Jodi shared, "So parang you, you always, your mind is always on overdrive.
"So when I go back to our hotel room, my problem is, okay, how do I just you know, bring back that energy down."
And because the weather in Baguio can really dry the skin, Jodi said that after cleansing she applies Estee Lauder's Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion to moisturize her face. currently priced at PHP4,200.
"It hydrates my face and it also strengthens my skin's barrier... And it’s not greasy. it’s not malagkit.
"And what I love about this one also is that it prepares my skin for the next product that I will apply."
After the essence-in-lotion, she applies the brand's Advanced Night Repair serum
She attested, "This one helps boost that, you know, that collagen production. So it makes your face parang plump and radiant, and brighter.
"And after two weeks of using it, parang I really saw the difference and I really call this my beauty sleep in a bottle."
Although the products is commonly used at night, Jodi said she also uses the serum before she starts her day for a "parang hindi ngarag kahapon" beauty look.
Jodi elaborated, "I use it in the morning after I’ve taken shower, before I go to work, before I apply my makeup.
"So I use this one and parang I would get comments like, ang fresh mo today, parang hindi ka nagtrabaho yesterday, parang nakatulog ka nang maayos, parang hindi ka ngarag yesterday sa shoot."
Estee Lauder's Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion is currently priced at PHP4,200, while the Advanced Night Repair serum sells at PHP4,350 (for a 30ml bottle) and PHP6,200 (for a 50ml bottle).
HIDING THE EYEBAGS
Her eye bags is a major for the actress, laughing as she said, "Nung nagsabog si Lord ng eyebags parang ako lahat yung sumalo.
"Yun talaga yung problem area ko. I really have parang dark circles."
She added, "Because I'm almost 40 now... hindi na maiiwasan yung pag-appear ng crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles sa eyes.
"Parang I feel na kahit sobrang small area lang ng eyes natin pero diyan lahat nangyayari.
"At diyan lahat nakikita yung emotions, when we smile, when we’re mad, when we’re afraid, when we’re happy.
"So, ang dami. So alam ko, nakikita ko na yung mga wrinkles."
To minimize this problem, Jodi said she uses Estee Lauder's Intense Reset Concentrate serum in her under-eye area.
"Simple lang sa siya. Pea-sized amount super konte. You don't.. you don't need a lot ‘cause it’s so matipid but it's super powerful.
"That's what good about this product. Hindi kailangan ilagay mo yung buong bottle sa face mo. A small amount and it will work wonders on your skin."
This eye serum costs PHP4,800 for a 20ml bottle.
PANDEMIC SKIN CARE
Jodi admitted that her skin-care routine drastically changed during the early months of the pandemic.
She said, "At first, it has changed significantly. But, you know, in a way na parang, since I don’t go out of the house, why should I continue with my beauty routine.
"But then as time went by, I told myself, 'Hey Jodi, beauty routine is part of your self-care. So, if you’re not going to take care of yourself, who’s gonna do that for you?'
"Just because the pandemic happened, it doesn’t mean that you’re never gonna return to work. Or you’re, parang you don’t have the right to feel and be beautiful.
"So parang slowly, I transitioned into, 'Okay, going back to my nightly routine.'
"Kasi nga naman sabi ko, 'This is... what an injustice am I doing to myself?' ‘Di ba, we’re advocating self-love and self-care.
"And now, I’m not caring for myself doon sa simpleng bagay lang na mag-apply ka ng mga products to make you feel good and beautiful. Or to at least take care of your skin."
