Many want to flaunt their best selves on social media, but no one is perfect.

Heavy make-up, filters, and edits may hide phsical flaws, but thank goodness, the social standard of beauty today requires simply to be true to oneself.

It's just a matter of accepting one's flaws, and this the actress Kyline Alcantara has fully embraced.

Back in 2018, Kyline suffered from severe acne problems, which frustrated her no end especially because her work requires to look good in public.

Her instant remedy was to put on a heavy foundation and concealer to mask the unwanted spots on her skin.

She said in a Zoom interview organized by Ever Bilena, “Kumbaga naging ano siya defense mechanism yung pagpu-put on ko ng napakakapal na make-up, and, of course, napakakapal na filter.”

The GMA-7 actress admitted she really struggled since she was expected to look perfect all the time.

Kylene lamented, “There were a lot of people bashing me because of my skin.

“Bakit ine-expect ng mga tao na porke't artista ka, you’ve always need to be perfect, you always need to be ready every single time.

"I mean, yes, it’s our job. but we’re humans, too.”

INSPIRATION TO BE AUTHENTIC IN PUBLIC

Kyline then decided to be honest to her followers by presenting her authentic self without worrying about being appreciated or not.

The Kapuso star said it was her bashers who actually inspired her to be genuine in public.

She said, “I see a lot of my fans, tweeting me po na parang, 'I feel so ugly, ang pangit ng skin ko. Sana pareho kami ng skin ni Ate Ky.,' ganyan-ganyan, 'sobrang kinis, she’s been inspiration talaga.'

“And siyempre yung nag-inspire talaga sa akin is my bashers, of course.

“May iba sa kanila na nakikita nila yung totoong skin ko sa pino-post ko. And totoo naman po yung sinasabi nila na I cover up.

"And then, eventually, I told my team that I want to show the real me.

"Bahala na kung ma-appreciate man ito ng mga tao o kung ma-bash man ako nang mas malala.

“But at least hindi ako nagsisinungaling sa sarili ko. At hindi rin ako nagsisinungaling sa kanila.”

KEEPING IT REAL ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The star of I Left My Heart in Sorsogon reiterated wearing thick make-up and using piles of filters for her photos to hide her facial flaws.

Kyline said, "Dati filter on top of another filter, on top of another filter, and on top of another editing.

"Like hindi ako proud na ipakita yung sarili ko especially no’ng time na napakarami ko pang pimples.

"Before I considered make-up as concealing every flaw kung ano mang nasa face ko.

“But right now, I consider make-up as enhancing every flaw and imperfections that I have on my skin.

"Kasi yun naman talaga yun, e. Hindi maaalis sa buhay natin, and, of course, sa mukha natin.”

According to her, “Mas gusto ko kasi ngayon, natutunan ko talagang mas authentic.

"And mas raw naa-appreciate ng tao kapag pinapakita mo talaga yung totoong ikaw sa kanila. Like walang parang cover sa mukha mo or sa personality mo.”

MESSAGE FOR WOMEN WHO DON'T FEEL BEAUTIFUL

Kyline also shared a hard lesson she herself learned, which was adaptability to change as the key to being free no matter how long it would take to achieve it.

As per Kyline, "The only consistent thing in our life is change. So we need to adapt to all of those changes—sa beauty man, sa buhay man, sa mga challenges man sa buhay.

"You also need to look on yourself first. You need to accept kung sino ka talaga kung ano man nasa mukha mo, kung ano mang flaws meron sa katawan mo.

And in order for you to love yourself, you need to know your Creator.

“Loving yourself is not an overnight thing. It’s not an overnight process.

"So, kailangan mo rin naman maging patient sa sarili mo when it comes to loving yourself and accepting your flaws.”
