Take it from content creator Crisha Uy: having dark underarms can make anyone, even celebrities, insecure.
In a YouTube vlog dated March 16, 2022, the 28-year-old social media influencer revealed that having dark underarms in the past took a toll on her self-confidence.
Crisha said there was a time when she avoided wearing clothes that might expose her so-called dark secret.
"Share ko sa inyo, I have a dark underarms story experience and it was so embarassing," the vlogger recalled in her 13-minute video titled "Life Update Vlog (May Love Life nako!)."
She continued, "I wasn't really confident sa aking kili-kili. I don't wear sleeveless at all. As in laging may sleeves. It took me how many years...
"Nahihiya kasi na ako ipakita 'tapos siyempre, hindi talaga ako confident. Ayoko talaga nagpapa-picture showing my underarms kasi before nahihiya ako."
It took Crisha some time before she realized that her previous kili-kili routine included abrasion and irritation that caused darkening.
She narrated, "I think kasi, kaya ako nagkaroon ng dark underarms kasi it's also my fault, like, I used to pluck it [hair].
"I also used to wax it so nagkaroon ng chicken skin.
"Mahilig ako mag-try ng kung anu-anong products kasi I wasn't confident. I was trying to look for answers... to my problem.
"'Tapos dati, wala pang laser...Di ba wala pang laser before? Nag-try na rin ako mag-shave."
With her latest underarm routine, Crisha was able to lighten her dark underarms and now proudly flaunts her flawless kili-kili.
The content creator shared some tips on how to overcome this problem. Based on her experience, she advised her YouTube subscribers to use products that are "hiyang" to their skin.
She explained, "Kailangan din natin kasi ibalik yung [pagka] light sa ating underarms. And that can be [done by using] iyong mga trusted products."
She also noted the importance of having proper hygiene.
"We also need good hygiene practices. Kasi I know, us Filipinos are really good in hygiene. Ayaw talaga natin na may bad smell."
Aside from these, Crisha said, "Ito rin yung tip ko sa inyo bespren, na to be more confident."
Ultimately, Crisha told her YouTube subscribers to take care of their underarms in the same way they take care of their face and the rest of their body.
Crisha said, "Na-realize ko talaga na you really have to take care of your underarms, right? I mean, it's part of your body. If I take care of my face, my body, also the kili-kili."
