Beauty content creator Kai Javier is glad to learn new makeup tips and tricks from international experts.

Kai is a TikTok content creator with over 100,000 followers. She is also the creative director of Kayu Beauty, a start-up cosmetics brand founded by TikTok stars Ayn Bernos and Rica Salomon.

On April 27, 2022, Kai learned new techniques for applying foundation during the virtual beauty class of American makeup artist Jocelyn Biga, who is also the Director of Global Artistry at Estee Lauder.

"It was so insightful talaga," Kai told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after the online makeup tutorial.

"Like, I was able to learn a lot. I remember while watching some of her tips, I was genuinely in awe.

"I was like, 'What? Why didn't I think of that?' It was so insightful. She was able to teach us a lot of things from a very simple look."

One of the beauty hacks she's excited to try and add to her routine is using foundation and serum together. This makeup hack is perfect for those who prefer the "balat lang" beauty look.

She said, "Out of all the hacks, yung isang hack talaga na sobrang napa, 'Oh, amazing,' ako talaga was, as in sobrang [galing], was yung hack about the Double Wear foundation.

"She kept talking about how she loves the Double Wear foundation since it's super versatile... It's so easy to manipulate it.

"So what she did was she mixed it with the Advanced Night Repair serum, which I actually just use at night, into the foundation.

"She uses it for her skin prep and it gives such a nice finish. Parang skin tint siya and that's a nice tip na I wanna try for summer."

For Kai, this foundation-serum tandem would work wonders for girls who don't really like wearing full coverage or heavy foundation.

"I'm definitely a 'less is more girl' when it comes to foundation. Kasi for me, especially in Philippine weather, I really don't like it when I feel like my face is heavy."

KAI'S MAKEUP HACKS

Kai also shared some makeup hacks of her own when it comes to using foundation.

One tip she shared is to use a full coverage foundation instead of layering up or building up the coverage as it leaves a tacky feeling on the skin.

"Usually, when I wear foundation that's really full coverage, I really don't go with a lot of concealer. But there are days talaga na I prefer no foundation or just a skin tint.

"If I need more coverage, I just buy a full coverage foundation instead of layering up and building up the coverage.

"I'd rather just use a full coverage foundation na lang. Para at least it's one product. I just need one layer and I'm out the door na."

But for Kai, the most important thing when buying foundation, aside from picking the right one for your skin tone, is its formula.

Kai observed that most Filipinos tend to forget that some foundation products aren't really formulated for their skin types.

She explained, "Siyempre, it's already a given that you have to know your own skin tone.

"But for me, it's super important talaga to know what your skin type is, especially now that so many foundation, so many kinds of base products are trending."

Kai can attest to this since she has experienced buying the wrong kind of foundation for her skin.

She recalled, "I remember when I was starting out with makeup, I have dry skin. But I didn't know much about makeup so I was sold a matte foundation.

"And it was a really good one for most people.

"But it didn't work for me because I have dry skin. I don't want to look more matte but I thought it was gonna be good because it was hyped. They work the best on certain skin types."

At the end of the day, Kai reminds her followers that "foundation is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing."

The beauty content creator said, "Something can be good for someone, but not good for your skin.

"If you're not sure about your skin type, maybe ask your dermatologist, ganun-ganun. For example, me, I have dry skin. I always go for dewy foundation so I don't look drier. Ganun lang."
