To some Miss Universe contestants, saying thank you to Filipinos for their warm hospitality was not enough.
Two candidates gave away special souvenirs.
Through social media, Miss Bulgaria Violina Ancheva announced that she would like to give the Sherri Hill gown she used in the pageant to someone who “really wants it and needs it.”
On Monday night, January 30, Miss Bulgaria began her search for the girl who may be able to use her gown for prom night.
The post now has more than 170,000 reactions, more than 13,000 comments, and more than 28,000 shares.
A single mother of two named Issay Gallano sent Miss Bulgaria a message.
In an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines, Gallano said she was already considering applying for an SSS (Social Security System) loan or pawning her necklace to buy her 15-year-old daughter Zyra Nicole Cifra a dress for a prom night set to happen in two weeks.
Miss Bulgaria told Gallano, "This is my present from Miss Universe. And for me to give you this, in me it's very much."
The lucky mom replied, "You have a big heart."
The experience was something that warmed even the beauty queen's heart.
"This is probably the most beautiful thing that I have ever done for somebody, the most touching thing."
Meanwhile, Miss Germany Johanna Acs gave away her castle headpiece, which she used during the national costume competition, to a university in Manila.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the German beauty queen said, “It's just a good gesture because the Philippines has treated us and me so nice so I just wanna say thank you and leave a small part of Germany here in the Philippines.”
The two-kilogram headpiece—which carried a castle replica and fairy tales popular in Germany—was given to interior designer Sol Albar, who will include it in an exhibit at the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design, where she is an alumna.
Among the Miss Universe contestants, it is Johanna who opted to stay in the Philippines for a vacation.
She is currently enjoying the beaches of Palawan.
