The GMA-7 actor and volleyball player Melissa Gohing had a military civil wedding on January 21, 2021.
According to Rocco, it was his idea to have their wedding on a naval ship.
Also a Philippine Navy reservist, the Kapuso actor said he was fully aware that any time he could be called to go on a mission and he would have no choice, "Aalis yan kahit may wedding."
The Kapuso star told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via an email interview, "Kaya medyo nag-lie low ako sa social media noong December because every day, I was going to the naval base with all these letters para magpa-approve."
Rocco and Melissa "really prayed hard" to be given permission to hold their wedding on the ship, and were thankful when they were given the chance.
from engaged to married
In Rocco and Melissa's livestream interview with PEP Troika on January 25, the couple revealed that getting married immediately after their engagement felt right.
For one thing, Rocco's new house was already built and ready to be moved in.
Another thing, both of their parents had requested they should get married first before they live together in the new house.
All things considered, Rocco and Melissa decided to go for it.
Melissa confided in the livestream interview that deciding on getting married was easy for both of them.
She said, "Parehas kasi kami ng taste, so whenever we decide on something, super easy."
She added that even their wedding suppliers were commenting about their smooth wedding preparations, "Kasi simple iyong gusto."
But the couple did encounter some hiccups along the way mainly because they were getting married during a pandemic and protocol needed to be followed.
Rocco revealed in the email interview that their guests had to undergo RT-PCR tests for COVID-19 three days before their wedding.
The Descendants of the Sun actor said, "The sooner that you need the results, mas mahal.
"Supposedly kasi Antigen Swab Test lang. But blessing in disguise, I have a schoolmate before na mayroong RT-PCR testing center.
"Buti na lang din the guests made time to take the test and lahat umabot."
Another concern for the couple was the weather. There was a high-percent chance of rain on their wedding day, but to their surprise, the sun was shining.
And, of course, Rocco's favorite detail about the wedding was that very moment he saw Melissa walk down the aisle.
He said, "That moment was really magical. Totoo yung sinabi ng mga kaibigan kong ikinasal na hindi mo mapu-put into words iyong moment na iyon."
He also loved the work event stylist Gideon Hermosa did for their wedding.
ready for the next chapter
Rocco said the pandemic had a part in affirming what he knew all along, that Melissa indeed was the woman he wanted to marry.
She was his "emotional punching bag" especially during the first few months of being in quarantine.
Rocco related, "I was going through anxiety and I was overthinking. She was really there to balance me out.
"That led me to realize that I really want to spend my life with her. I became a better person because of her."
Going through self-examination, Rocco also recognized that the time of surrendering the "whole you" to a marriage has come for him.
He pondered in his e-mail to PEP.ph, "You submit in a way that all your decisions will not just be for yourself.
"It will be for the both of you and, eventually, for your family. I gave all of myself and doon ko na-realize na handa na nga ako."
What's he looking forward to the most as a married man?
Rocco simply wrote, "Babies."
