All the world by now knows the surprise pulled by celebrity couple Angel Locsin and Neil Arce when they announced they've gotten married.
Once more with feeling, here are the least known details about the events leading up to their civil wedding as told by Angel and Neil themselves in their YourTube vlog dated August 14, 2021.
In one part of the vlog, Neil looked back on those days in June 2019 when he was about to propose to Angel.
Neil said he first asked Angel's father Angelo Colmenares for permission to marry his daughter. This was witnessed by Angel's sister, Ella Colmenares.
Neil recalled, "Actually, 2019, a week before Father's Day, right after ko bilhin yung ring, pumunta agad ako sa daddy niya.
"Sabi ko, 'Daddy ah, magpo-propose ako.' 'Oh, anong proposal mo?' So akala niya may business proposal ako.
"'Tapos sabi ni Ate Ella, 'Daddy, magpapakasal sila.' 'Ay, good! Good!' Gumanun naman. Sobrang nawala yung burden sa shoulders kasi 'good' ang sinabi niya."
Angel at the time was about to leave for Europe as part of the Kapamilya show Fiesta World Belgium 2019.
According to Neil, when Daddy Angelo asked him when he would propose, he answered, "Kasi pupunta si Angel sa Belgium, baka after."
But then, he was told, "Sabi niya, 'Hindi, gawin mo na bago lumipad.'"
Neil did as he was told by Daddy Angelo.
Unfortunately, when he and Angel were in Italy for ASAP Natin 'To Rome in November 2019, she misplaced the engagement ring and they never found it.
But instead of stressing themselves over the missing ring, Neil and Angel decided to get a replacement for the engagement ring.
Fearing she'd lost it again, Angel settled for a fake ring that looked exactly like her engagement ring, and which she could wear daily. .
Neil said, "Ang takeaway ko dun, it showed how emotionally strong we are as a couple. Kung mas bata-bata kami or kung hindi kami ganun ka-emotionally strong, baka we'd take it as a sign."
Neil revealed that weeks after their engagement, they already started planning for a church wedding, including a prenuptial shoot in Finland in September.
But everything had to be postponed because of stricter quarantine protocols due to COVID-19 Delta variant.
He said, "After two or three weeks, nakahanap na kami ng venue, wedding planner, team.
"Nung medyo set na lahat, may plano na kaming lumipad ng Finland para mag pre-nup shoot, biglang tumama yung pandemic.
"Next month, dapat aalis din kami. Na-cancel din. Sabi namin, 'Baka ayaw talaga tayong pag pre-nup shoot, pakasal na tayo.'"
Their civil wedding ceremony was officiated by Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano.
THE WEDDING RINGS
Neil told their YouTube subscribers, "Kami lang siguro ang bride and groom na pumila sa elevator bago ikasal. May pila yung elevator, siyempre, apat-apat lang. Pandemic ngayon e.
"Dalda-dala niya yung bouquet niya, pumipila kami ng elevator hanggang turn na namin umakyat."
Angel later added, "Kung ano yung nangyari sa wedding namin na ito, may personal touch namin talaga. It's very intimate, it's very simple. It's very us."
Neil and Angel did not have formal wedding rings at their civil wedding for the reason they were saving the occasion for their church wedding.
Neil recalled, "Wala kaming dalang singsing. Nag-usap naman kami na we're going to save some moments na mangyayari sa Christian wedding na first time pa rin.
"Pagdating namin dun, unang tanong sa amin ni Mayor, siyempre, 'Ready na ba yung vows niyo?' Nagkatinginan kami, 'Mayor, wala kasi kaming vows.'
"'Sige, ito na, isusulat ko na basahin niyo na lang ito,' sabi sa amin ni Mayor na ganun. 'Yung rings niyo?'
"'Kailangan ba namin ng rings?' 'Hindi puwedeng walang rings.'"
On the spot, Neil and Angel somehow managed to come up with his and her wedding rings—her mock engagement ring and one of the rings of Joaquin, Neil's 14-year-old son.
Neil recounted, "Siya, ginamit namin yung engagement ring niya. Ako, buti na lang yung anak ko medyo rocker, nakasingsing na... Sabi ko, 'Let me borrow your ring.'
"Sabi niya, 'You can use this first.' Sabi sa akin nung anak ko."
Angel ditched the gown and the heels for a comfy white blazer, black jeans, a black top, and a pair of comfy white sneakers.
For his part, Neil wore a white long-sleeved shirt that he bought at a mall in Metro Manila days before their wedding. He also wore black denim jeans and sneakers.
To complete her bridal look, Angel carried a bouquet prepared by event stylist and floral designer Randy Lazaro.
Her bouquet has stems of white Hellebores, Astilbe, Bouvardia, Nigella, Italian Ruscus combined with Eucalyptus
Angel said in her vlog she did not plan to carry a bouquet during her civil wedding, but Randy convinced her to do so.
The Kapamilya host/actress only saw the bouquet on her wedding day.
Neil and Angel only had eight guests during their civil wedding comprising their immediate family members and closest friends.
Seen in the photo below are Neil's son Joaquin (far left) and his mother Jean (third from left), Angel's father Daddy Angelo (fourth from right), her sister Ella (second from right), Neil's best friend King Stehmeier (second from left), Angel's best friend Dimples Romana (far right), and Dimples' husband Boyet Ahmee (third from right).
King and Dimples stood as wedding witnesses; Boyet was the videographer.
NicePrint Photography also sent one of their photographers to take photos of the wedding.
In their vlog, the couple showed the sweet message they received from Daddy Angelo.
He said, "Angel and Neil, congratulations! May you have... I wish you happiness throughout your lives.
"But this could only be achieved if you take good care of each other day by day. And much more if you put Christ in the center of your life."
Daddy Angelo also had one request: "I'm now 94 years old and I wish that Neil and Angel will soon give me a grandson."
In the vlog, Angel was exuberant in expressing her thanks to Dimples.
She said, "Sobrang sweet ni Dimples. Siyempre, wala ako sa lugar para sabihin kung ano yung mga naiisip niya nung mga panahon na yun.
"But kung meron kang ganung klaseng kaibigan, talagang pang-forever na talaga yun. Napakasuwerte mo."
After their civil wedding ceremony, the couple had a simple dinner set up at the garden of their new home in Quezon City.
Ycoy and Jeffrey Sitchon of La Belle Fête Weddings organized the intimate affair.
In an Instagram post on August 9, 2021, La Belle Fête shared some details of the couple's wedding receptiont.
Their caption read: "The pandemic taught all of us to follow our 'natural' compass that leads us to choose what is significant, authentic, quiet, and moves the heart. But to some, this path is innate.
"The name @therealangellocsin is synonymous to simplicity, gentleness, and compassion.
"Thus, it is no surprise that her way of life would also be reflected in her civil wedding. The civil ceremony was followed by an intimate dinner at their backyard."
La Belle Fête added that "dining under the stars" was the theme Randy aimed for when he worked on Angel and Neil's wedding reception setup.
The post continued, "Neil and Angel celebrated simply in jeans, sneakers, and black shirts with the tablescape filled with greeneries.
"@randylazaro_ reflected 'dining under the stars' through the use of fairy lights.
"Sustainability is front and center, from the lights to the table decors by upcycling them as home decors (plants).
"The setting was warm and organic but innovative and impactful. Most of all, it reflects the personalities of Neil and Gel."
The table was decorated with herbs and potted plants that Angel has kept after the celebration.
In an Instagram post on August 9, Angel also thanked Randy for going the extra mile when all she wanted was to borrow some chairs and tables for the wedding reception.
Angel wrote in her post, "I don’t want to flood you guys with wedding chorvaness. I just wanted to thank @randylazaro_ for coming to my call 2 days before the wedding to set up a reception area for 10 in our backyard :)
"What started out as 'pwede bang makihiram ng tables and chairs, a buffet table for our take out food,' nauwi sa napakagandang set up na ito na pwede ng peg sa pinterest dahil hindi ka pumayag na ganun ka basic lang [emoji]
"And if I maybe honest, I’m sooo glad I listened to you! [emoji] hanggang ngayon nagagamit pa namin yung mga herbs and plants na you used as decoration since alam mo na nanghihinayang ako na patay na yung plants the next day.
"At salamat for adjusting sa gusto namin na no flowers dahil sa dami ng allergies namin ni Neil sa flowers."
Their celebration would not be complete without good food.
But instead of catered buffet, Angel and Neil served "take out food" at their wedding reception.
Angel's sister Ella also set up a snack station with milk tea, fries, fish ball, and kikiam as per the bride's request.
Meanwhile, Neil's mom Jean brought the cutest mocha-flavored wedding cake for the celebration.
Angel said, "Yung yung pinakamagandang wedding cake na nakita ko. So beautiful at masarap."
