The teachers of Campaasan Elementary School in Oriental Mindoro are proving that teaching is more than a profession.

For them, it is a vocation.

They recently launched Halaman Ko, Barter Mo, where they trade plants for printing supplies, activity sheets, and health kits to be used by their students in the coming academic year.

The project is led by principal Lucy Ferranco, and was launched on her online store on July 13, 2020.

Ferranco said in an interview with DZMM TeleRadyo on July 16, "Ang idea po ay galing talaga sa akin.

She talked more about the project in her video conference with Summit Media in August 2020.

She related, "Doon po sa pagpo-post namin ng barter, we do not ask for money, we are just asking for particular items—school supplies, mga health kits, alcohol, masks, and thermal scanners—depende po sa kung ano iyong halaman na aming ino-offer sa kanila.

The traded supplies would benefit 315 students, most of them belonging in the underprivileged class that has no access to internet nor gadgets.

OUTPOUR OF SUPPORT FROM COMMUNITY AND NETIZENS

Ferranco expressed gratitude for the huge support their project has been getting from their community and donors outside Oriental Mindoro.

She said in her interview with Summit Media, "We are happy na from the first day that we have launched the project Halaman Ko, Barter Mo, tinanggap siya ng komunidad and masaya po kami dahil in just a minute ng pag-post sa online selling account ay marami na agad ang nag-'mine' ng mga aming halaman...

She added, "After po sa isang exposure sa isang interview, some are offering cash donations.

Ferranco admitted in her interview with DZMM that they still have a long way to go.

She said, "Ang target po namin ay hindi lang just for one week.

Despite that, Ferranco said she is hopeful that Campaasan Elementary School will have a promising future with the help of everyone around them.

She related to Summit Media, "Katulad po ng kasabihan, 'It's not how much you do, but how much love you put in what you are doing that counts.'

You may send donations to Ferranco through her GCash or Paymaya account, 09194679448.
