Unlike girls, guys do not dilly-dally when it comes to their purchases and preferences.
Women tend to be fickle-minded, while men more or less know what they want.
At an event of René Mouris, a French purveyor of luxury timepieces, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had the chance to talk to three male celebrities about watches.
We also saw how practical they are when it comes to their fashion choices.
GEOFF EIGENMANN. The son of Michael de Mesa and Gina Alajar is not brand-conscious.
"All my watches all have different styles.
"Pero if I could choose, always, I would get something that is different, that not everybody has, like yung mga weird-looking.
"Pero gusto ko yung may ibang design, eccentric, design na not your typical."
More importantly, the watch should serve its major function, "Yung mahirap i-tell yung time or walang numbers, or blank lang na may hands, mahirap yun.
"Kasi kaya nga may watch, di ba."
Next, the design has to be versatile.
He said, "Because how I dress up is very weird na iba-iba.
"I have no specific style so I like a watch that goes with whatever I'm feeling!
"Kahit ano, whatever fits my taste, basta kailangan sa unang kita ko pa lang, gusto ko na."
To Geoff, first impression is an important deciding factor.
"If it doesn't catch my first impression, wala na.
"Kasi I decide quick, so if I like something or not, basta it draws my attention in less than two minutes.
"Pag inisip ko kasi, I end up not getting it!"
Of his current collection, he admitted, "I have a bunch, which is more than a dozen.
"I like kasi what's new.
"Marami akong old styles na stored lang, and if it goes with what I am wearing, I'll take it out of the box."
His most expensive watch is a Panerai that he has kept for five years.
He proudly said, "Definitely an investment, an heirloom piece.
"It comes with straps na puwede everyday casual or I can switch to crocodile leather for more formal events."
GLOC-9. As he gets older, the Filipino rapper said his taste has evolved.
Gloc-9 likes his watches big and hefty.
"Mas okay ako sa big face. Mas lalake yung dating.
"Okay rin si automatic, pero sa panahon ngayon, matagal din naman ang tinatagal nung hindi automatic."
The chart-topping musician said he’s willing to pay more for a good watch.
"Pag mayroon ako extra, willing to pay more na talaga.
"Pero hindi ako yung tipo na super duper mahal.
"Kung ano yung tingin ko kaya sa budget ko, na kaya ko i-extend or itaas, doon ako."
He doesn't see watches as investment pieces though.
Gloc-9 pointed out, "Hindi masyado investment.
"Sa totoo lang, I don't have or plan on selling them. Pag binili ko, gusto ko siya."
He doesn't own a lot of formal, luxury pieces, too.
Given his line of work, wearing expensive watches is not also advisable.
"Sa mga gigs na pinupuntahan ko, di ako puwede mag-relo ng mahal.
"Most of the time kasi, for security purpose and safety nung watch itself.
"Pero pag special occasions puwede sila," he said.
ARTHUR SOLINAP. The Encantadia cast member likes his watches to be both casual and classy.
So far, he has about 15 watches, but, "hindi pa naman collection."
Given that he is about to get married to Rochelle Pangilinan, he is learning to set a limit to his budget.
"Ngayon mas conservative na ako sa price kasi mas priority ko na magkaka-family."
The priciest watch he owns retails for a little over PHP 200,000, but he clarified, "slightly used ko siya nakuha 'tapos leather siya."
Asked about his requirement when buying watches.
"Kung casual ngayon, depende sa role, pero lahat nababagay."
His long-time girlfriend Rochelle Pangilinan chimed in, "Sa babae kasi, usually ok na iyan.
"Bagay na sa lahat kapag may watch tayo.
"Pero siya, depende sa outfit ang relo niya! So mahilig o hindi?"
