Oh my gulay!
Some celebrities are lucky to have fresh produce picked from their own vegetable garden.
In the time of COVID-19 pandemic, the tanim na gulay does not only save money and effort, it is safer, too.
As Mylene Dizon put it, "Kahit anong mangyari, meron kang madudukot na pagkain."
The actress' organic vegetables—from radish to sugarbeets to carrots and fennel, among others—began appearing on her Instagram feed in April 2019.
Her decision to turn the backyard of her house in Silang, Cavite into a mini garden was parly because of "food security."
In a previous interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), she said, "Sana, kung maaari, kung meron tayong maski maliit na lupa lang na puwede nating pagtaniman ng gulay, dapat nagtatanim tayo ng ating sariling gulay..."
She continued, "Knowing that I’m able to produce something out of dirt, that I can make food for the family or the challenge of it because it’s not easy, now I understand, I have this high respect for farmers, especially organic farmers, because organic farming is very difficult."
Similarly, the Team Kramer also has a vegetable garden in their house.
And one does not need a lot of space, according to Cheska Garcia-Kramer, because "there are vegetables that also grow well in pots or in containers."
The celebrity mom's latest post on Instagram revealed their "harvest list," which she described as among the family's "simple joys."
Her caption read:
"Kendra along with yaya Josie was able to harvest quite a number of vegetables in our little garden.
"We started planting more again these past few days and they are growing pretty quickly and looking very healthy.
"Our Harvest list: . Onion Leaks . Baby carrots . Turmeric . Ginger . Tomatoes . String beans . Bell Pepper . Green sili . Pod of the moringa . Monggo (not in photo) . Eggplants . Sigarilyas . Sponge gourd."
"It doesn't take much to grow these vegetables. If space is your concern there are vegetables that also grow well in pots or in containers.
"You can search online and get pointers on how to start growing your own organic vegetables and how to care for them. That is how I started..."
Gardening is pretty much a part of Neri Naig-Miranda's daily life in Alfonso, Cavite.
On March 15, the first day of the community quarantine, she remarked in an Instagram post, "Buti na lang at di kami gala ng nanay ko at nag-eenjoy lang sa bahay at mag-garden."
Want sinigang for lunch and camote cue for dessert?
Pitas lang sa #nerigarden.
She also has lettuce, pechay, cabbage, and even strawberries.
Marjorie Barretto's garden in her house in Bulacan has vegetables, such as okra, and fruits.
Liz Uy and son Xavi started their mini garden project in February 2020, so their family can "eat healthier."
Other stars who have vegetables in their garden or farm are:
Zsa Zsa Padila
Her Esperanza Farm in Lucban, Quezon, has kale, radish, Chinese kailan, and many others.
His garden has amplaya, pechay, kamatis, and most of the vegetables mentioned in the song "Bahay Kubo."
One of his old captions is relevant these days: "Kaisa magkalat magtanim po tayo at gawing kapakipakinabang ang kapaligiran!"
