Meet Wendolyn Chiu, the face behind Twinkle's Kitchen, another online business start-up that is showing early success.
In showbiz, she is known as the older sister of Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu.
A flight attendant for seven years now, Wendolyn, or "Twinkle" to her family and friends, is making the most out of her free time baking sushi dishes and selling them online.
The new entrepreneur recounted to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a video call via Google Meet on August 14 how her business venture started.
"Sa panahon ngayon, iyong affected talagang work is iyong airline industry. Walang gustong mag-travel or hindi tayo puwede mag-travel dahil sa pandemic."
With the easing of safety protocols into general community quarantine in the country, Twinkle and her colleagues are called to fly out of the country every now and then.
However, these trips are only those that are considered essential travel or repatriation flights for overseas Filipino workers.
"So kami din, as mga empleyado, nahihirapan rin kami ngayon kasi no work, no pay kami. Struggling rin iyong company, which is naiintindihan namin.
CHIU FAMILY COOK
Within their family, the pretty stewardess is famous for her cooking, the only one who has taken after their parents in that department.
Twinkle said, "Before, mahilig na talaga ako magluto pero sa bahay lang, like pinapakain ko family ko, friends ko...
"Kasi mom and dad ko, mahilig sila magluto.
"Naisip ko, 'Oo nga, 'no?' Why not be productive every day?"
Twinkle's Kitchen offers dishes inspired by the famous sushi bake, which is usually cooked using Japanese rice, salmon, crab sticks, Japanese mayo, and cream cheese.
Twinkle revealed that her specialties are also inspired by a Japanese food kiosk in Canada that she frequented before the pandemic.
Twinkle makes her baked sushi even more special, adding mango and the chili sauce Sriracha to it and calls the dish, "Kani Mango Sriracha Sushi Bake."
Another bestseller is the Spam Musubi Bake, which consists of caramelized Spam topped with Wasabi mayonnaise.
Aside from her signature baked dishes, Twinkle's Kitchen also sells trays of truffle mushroom pasta and baked salmon.
Like a true flight attendant, Twinkle gives customer satisfaction top priority in her online business.
And being a newbie entrepreneur, she had her struggles in the beginning.
Beyond our controls.
"Medyo okay lang naman sa clients ko. Sinasabihan lang nila ako na 'It's not your fault, fault rin ng rider na hindi siya nag-iingat.'
Sabi ko, 'It's on me,' para umorder pa ulit sila sa akin."
Twinkle's online store, which she opened only last May 21, has since grown with more than 20 orders each week.
She said, "Usually, kapag naka-order na sa akin, nagri-repeat.
"Sinasabi nila, they tried another sushi bake pero kaya sila bumalik sa akin, better pa daw.
