How will the COVID-19 pandemic affect my job? This is just one of the many questions that cause people's anxiety during the quarantine.

As many communities continue to be on lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, people are feeling more anxious because of the forced isolation.

The anxiety may trigger many negative emotions and memories to surface, leading to aggressive behavior, anger, or depression.

But according to celebrity life coach Myke Celis, this can be prevented by focusing on setting ourselves free.

He tells (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “I always believed that freedom is a matter of choice.

"We may be physically locked inside our homes, but our spirit and thoughts can remain free if we focus on letting go of the things that weigh us down.

"Those are the least that we need right now.”

The best-selling author of the #bestmeever book series, which is set to make an international launch soon, adds:

“Our thoughts determine our emotions and both of them have control over our actions.

"So when we clear our thoughts, we set ourselves free and we allow ourselves to grow in the space we are in.

"Yes, you can still thrive amidst the pandemic."

What kind of thoughts and emotions do we have to let go of during the COVID-19 lockdown so we can properly deal with anxiety?

Coach Myke lists these thoughts and emotions, and suggests ways to cope with them during the quarantine:

1.) Self-Doubt

Coach Myke suggests looking back at your personal journey to remind yourself of how far you've come.

He says, “Compare yourself to the person that you were, let’s say, five years ago. Most probably you’ll realize that you’re in a much better space now. Take to heart that you have everything you need within you to survive… and eventually thrive thereafter. Give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it.”

2.) What Could Have Beens

Every person has his/her share of bad decisions that bring about regrets and failures.

When you realize this, Coach Myke says, "Know that all the decisions that you made led you to become the person that you are right now. They might not have resulted to something pleasant, but, hey, what’s important is you grew from the experience."

He points out that these learnings are necessary as you keep moving forward.

Instead of looking at your past, Coach Myke suggests, "What if you focus on what can still be instead? Maybe it’s time for you to set new goals. Or even lead a new life.”

3.) Guilt

It's time to let go of the emotional baggage you've been carrying.

Coach Myke suggests using this time of enhanced community quarantine to reconnect with yourself.

He says, “How about closing some unfinished chapters also in your life? Stop the blame game. Reach out. Say sorry. Forgive. Give yourself the kind of peace that you want and deserve. That’s priceless."

As the COVID-19 pandemic is already changing life as we know it, you, too, can make changes in your own life.

"Allow yourself to open a new chapter in your life. One that’s far even better than before,” he adds.

4.) Present Worries

One of the best ways to combat stress and depression? Appreciate what you have now.

Coach Myke points out that some people are in the hospital, fighting for their lives.

If you are lucky enough not to be one of them, he says, "Try to look around you and realize how blessed you are: you are still safe inside your home, with your loved ones perhaps, while watching Netflix and playing with your pets.

"Those are precious moments which you should cherish because as we get disconnected from the outside world, we are given that wonderful opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and our loved ones."

You also don't need to put too much pressure on yourself during these times.

He advises, "Live one day at a time. You don’t have to resolve everything at once. And that’s okay.”

5.) UNCERTAIN About The Future

"Overthinking can wreck havoc to any person who’s not mentally fit, especially if the concern revolves around something beyond one’s control," Coach Myke warns.

This is why he thinks it's important to "free ourselves from the things we can’t control, like the future, for example."

He adds, “I think one of the best lessons the COVID-19 lockdown is teaching us is how to live in the now and appreciate what really matters."

So, what to do when thoughts of the future begin to overwhelm you?

"Just let things be. Ask yourself this: what can you do here and now that will allow you to grow in harmony with the present? That’s one thing you can definitely control, by choice.”

Coach Myke ends with this powerful reminder:

“At the end of the day, always remember that you have a choice. The choice to be free from everything that’s preventing us from becoming the person we are meant to be after the lockdown is over, simply because you deserve it.”
