How Sheryl Cruz at 46 maintains her 26-inch waistline

How many women past their 20s can boast a 26½-inch waistline? It is the ideal measure, according to scientists.

At 46, Sheryl Cruz can raise her hand. Her waistline measures 26-inch, which is tinier than the ideal.

Lately, the actress has taken to low-impact hula hoop dancing not so much to maintain her figure but to help ease her scoliosis.

Sheryl has kept a video diary of her exercises, posted it on Instagram, and it caught on particularly with women looking for alternative ways to trim down.

In an interview with PEP Live on Tuesday, May 5, she said, "Actually, katuwaan lang yun.

"I never knew na magiging click siya because for me talaga, it's actually not for me to get people's attention by doing the hula hoop dance workout.

"Para sa akin, it was also a matter of me taking care of my scoliosis problem.

"Since I don't have a swimming pool at home, one way to address that is to straighten up your body.

"So with hula hoop, it helped me a lot kasi nga mafo-force ka to straighten up yung likod mo."

Sheryl also said on PEP Live, "At my age, it's very difficult to lose weight kaya once I've lost the weight I wanted to lose, I have to maintain it."

For this purpose, she has also been doing functional training online with celebrity fitness trainer Paulyn Quiza, who happens to be the fiancée of her Magkaagaw co-star Polo Ravales.

She said, "Di ba, sumasabay kami sa uso. Besides me doing workouts like Zumba or hula hoop dancing, I do functional workout three to four times a week with Pau."

Sheryl said functional training program with Coach Pau is a lot more holistic.

She explained, "It takes care of your entire body from head to toe, lahat ng muscle groups mo talagang binibigyan ng focus.

"Pero hindi mo gagawin sa isang session, of course. Different sessions, iba-ibang parts ng body mo yung concentration or focus na gagawin."

SHERYL CRUZ'S DIET

The Kapuso actress also has been watching her diet, following the advice of Coach Pau.

Sheryl said, "She also keeps track of what I eat. Doon sa iba na madaling mag-follow ng instruction, hindi siya ganun ka-tough.

"But what I like about her is there's honesty and trust between the two of us like halimbawa, 'Ay ang dami kong nakain na chocolates...' May cheat day, ganyan.

"Sabi niya, 'I just want us to be open to each other para alam natin what works for you and what doesn't.'

"She's a very gifted, what do you call this... Gumagawa siya ng program for you and hindi siya yung nagpa-plateau na program.

"Example, kapag halimbawa nagda-diet ka, di ba, we've tried different kinds of diet 'tapos nagyo-yoyo ka.

"And there comes a time na nagpa-plateau kasi hindi na bumababa yung timbang mo. Instead, nagge-gain ka ng weight.

"She's very gifted in the sense na ang galing niyang gumagawa ng programs for you na iba-iba."
