Vilma Santos, 67, has found the best way to stay fit without compromising on the food she loves to eat.
Vilma, also known by many as Ate Vi, maintains her figure by exercising regularly and eating in moderation.
"I love to eat!" the Star for All Seasons said in an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via Zoom on April 28, 2021.
She continued, "I love, definitely, Filipino. Yung lumpia, yung sinigang lalo na kapag maasim. Gusto ko rin po ang ano, Japanese food. I eat anything in moderation, but I make sure to exercise naman, especially sa edad ko po."
Ate Vi regularly sets aside time to do her exercise routines at her home in Batangas.
She told PEP.ph, "So dito po sa bahay, I do my exercise every other day. Minsan every day, especially now na lockdown. Minsan every day and then may rest day."
The actress-politician is used to an active lifestyle, thanks to her rigorous dance rehearsals back when she was doing the variety show Vilma, which aired on GMA-7 from 1986 to 1995.
She recalled, "During yung Vilma days, yung show ko po na Vilma... For 15 years yun yung Vilma ko. Nasanay ako na every week meron po akong matinding rehearsal.
"So gamay ang katawan ko na nagsasayaw, nag-i-stretch, nagwo-workout kasi in preparation for the opening number ng Vilma.
"Nagsasayaw kami noon talaga so na-train po ako ng ganun talaga yung katawan ko, kaya kahit wala na yung Vilma, hinahanap po ng katawan ko yung exercise."
She has always loved dancing.
"I love to dance! Ang boses ko naman po, Vilmanians lang ang nagmamahal.
"So between singing and dancing, I still prefer dancing, and I dance within the house.
"That's part of my exercise, too."
Asked what type of music she often dances to, Ate Vi revealed, "Any music, especially magaganda, yung mga TikTok-TikTok na music. Magaganda po iyan na sinusundan mo, di ba?
"Yung mga sayaw-sayaw na ganyan, enjoy po ako, parte po iyan ng aking exercise, yung mga music ng TikTok."
The congresswoman of Lipa, however, does not have an official TikTok account.
Aside from dancing, what are her other exercise routines?
Ate Vi answered, "I have my spinning bike. Meron pong treadmill. May mga weights po. And then may mga sinusundan ako sa video na mga Taebo o kaya, you walk.
"Basta I see to it na an hour or an hour and a half, I do exercise. So that masarap kumain, alam mo nang may binurn kang pagkain. Plus, of course, my age. Kailangan medyo alaga na rin po nang konti."
