Angel Locsin revealed she has embarked on a journey to get back into shape.

In her Instagram Stories on Tuesday morning, June 8, 2021, the 36-year-old actress wrote she is taking her first step toward a healthier and more fit lifestyle through a nutritionist-approved calorie-controlled diet program.

Angel said, "I'm gonna record this because today is the first day of my Doctor Food diet. After so many years, I finally decided to go back and try Dr. Food."

Dr. Food is a diet program developed by Aivee Café for Aivee Clinic's clients.

According to their Instagram account, Dr. Food consists of "chef-curated and nutritionist-approved delicious meals that are planned to bring specific and highly-individualized results."

Angel showed in her succeeding Instagram stories the foods she takes for her 800-calorie diet daily.

She said, "Mukha siyang konti because I'm on a 800-calorie diet and according to my nutritionist sa Aivee Clinic din, yun yung kailangan to achieve my goal.

"So please bear with me and wish me good luck!"

Angel reportedly started gaining weight because of the maintenance medicines she was required to take after her surgery for a spine injury in 2015 and to manage her Polycystic ovary syndrome.

A year after her surgery, Angel started training for the Star Cinema movie remake of Darna. However, she decided to pull out of the project because of her medical condition.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, Angel said, "Noong bumalik ako ng workout, umiyak ako, e. Naramdaman ko yung mga hindi ko na puwedeng gawin. Dati kasi feeling mo superhero ka talaga, kaya mong gawin lahat."

Angel has been drawing body-shaming comments about her weight gain since 2019.

She addressed her bashers in her interview on Tonight With Boy Abunda in January 2019 in which she said, "Kung iisipin mo, parang maaawa ka na lang sa tao kasi anong klaseng person ka para magawa mo yun? Perfect? Perfect ka? Sobrang perfect mo?"

On June 19, 2020, the actress's photos taken in Mauban, Quezon, circulated on social media.

The body-shaming comments persisted, but talks about body positivity surfaced, too.
