Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach takes part in AIDS Walk New York

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach described the fund-raising event as "very inspirational."


Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach helps raise awareness for HIV/AIDS.

On May 15, Pia joined a number of people who lit candles at the 33rd International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day.

She wrote on the Miss Universe Instagram account, "Lighting a candle for International AIDS candlelight memorial day. Raising social awareness and breaking down the stigma. But most importantly, do you know your status?"

Pia also participated in the AIDS Walk New York, which was able to raise more than $145 million that day.

Its proceeds will help establish HIV programs and services in the tri-state area, which covers parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Pia was happy to be part of such a key event for the fight against HIV/AIDS.

She wrote, "Glad I was able to participate and witness this. It was very inspirational and I hope to see similar fundraisers as moving as this in other parts of the world. Congratulations @gmhc @aidswalkny#aidswalkny END AIDS. LIVE LIFE."
