Here are the five cardinal rules to live a healthy and active lifestyle:
Dr. Mitzi has got us thinking about drinking eight glasses of water to keep our body hydrated.
According to her, “The World Health Organization will tell us that ladies would need 2.5 liters of water per day because we need that much water for our bodies to properly function every day.
“For men, it’s even more. Mga 3.3 liters daw per day.
“So, you can imagine if you’re not consuming that much, then you might need to think about it.”
Be active even in busy days.
Exercise is as important as eating healthy. Even though you’re always on-the-go, Dr. Mitzi recommends to allot at least three days a week for a quick exercise.
We should have physical activity for at least one hour per day.
No time for gym? Do it at home!
One suggestion is substituting dumbbells and/or kettle balls with two 1-liter water bottles and/or 5-liter water jug.
Another workout alternative is jumping rope.
According to shape.com, you can burn up to 1,000 calories in 20 minutes of jump rope.
Don’t skip a meal.
Food fuels our body to function properly through the daily grind.
Dr. Mitzi recommends that we should have “five servings of fruits and vegetables a day” to have adequate diet.
Manage your stress levels.
Stress affects our physical, emotional, and mental health. It can lead to unhealthy vices such as chain smoking and drinking alcohol excessive.
It is important to manage your stress levels to maintain a healthy well-being.
Take your vitamins.
Last but not the least, vitamins are the key component in living a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Mitzi relates, “The harsh truth is we may not be getting enough vitamins from our diet.
“Vitamins and minerals are essential for our body to work. In medical term, when we say essential, our body does not produce it. So, we need external sources for our bodies to use.”
“Doctors were so engrossed in adequate diet. So, they thought if you ate a well-balanced diet, okay ka na. Healthy ka na.
"But in 1905, what they realized in animal studies, they were feeding animals adequate diet, but these animals being fed adequate diet and water were actually less healthy than those who had adequate diet and milk.”
Medical scientists also discovered that milk has calcium and vitamin B, which are essential to having healthy bones.
What exactly are the vitamins we should be looking out for?
Dr. Mitzi enumerates, “Vitamin B complexes because they help in energy.
“The vitamin E, A and Zinc because they are healthy for the skin and the hair.
“Vitamin C for enhanced immunity.
“Calcium for your healthy bones. Vitamin B for bones, but recent studies have shown that they are not just for bones healthy—they can actually avoid chronic diseases.
“And of course, your amino acids which are your micronutrients or minerals, magnesium and potassium.”
