“Maarte ako about everything. Maarte ako hanggang sa tubig," said Kris Aquino at her launch as endorser of Healthy Family Purified Water, on Monday, January 29.
She added, "I'm pretty much a water connoisseur. Ano talaga, nag-i-splurge ako sa tubig because I love water.
"Everybody knows this, if you watched my past shows, you would know how much water I would drink.
"Yun talagang constant and nonstop."
Kris said water is one of her beauty secrets.
“Every time I'm asked, 'How are you able to maintain your good skin?'
“Aside from getting my eight hours of sleep every night, I really drink a lot of water.”
According to Kris, she consumes about five liters of water on the average.
“Yung 500 ml bottle, normally, I consume 10 bottles a day.
“Pero kung working nga, umaabot ng 12 to 16 because you have to keep your throat hydrated.
“Pero ito mali, kasi it's cold. I drink room temperature or warm water.”
Isn't she drinking a little too much?
Kris said it was also her ten-year-old son Bimby's “P10-million question” when he was a kid: “Why do you really drink so much water?”
She continued, “I said, 'Bimb, because the doctor said it's so important to keep mama's throat hydrated because I talk for a living.'
“Sabi ko, 'I have no other talent but talking.'
“So, sabi ko, 'Patay tayo if I lose my voice.'”
LEARNING THE HARD WAY. But Kris said she is also picky about her drinking water.
Aside from the quantity, quality is also important to her.
She recalled, “I had an event in a place and then, hindi kami nakapagbaon ng tubig ko, so I drank their water.
“It was hot water. I drank... siguro dahil ang lakas ko mag-water, I had four big mugs of water.
“The only thing I ate there was a salad. Of course, it's washed.
“I had really bad gastroenteritis after, as in sobrang...
“Yung up and down, more than 15 times each, my [blood pressure] already went up to 160/120.
“One of the yayas is a nurse actually, so sinabi niya, 'Ma'am, dalhin na talaga kita kasi kailangan ka na mag-ER. Kasi hindi na maganda ito, baka ma-dehydrate ka na.'
“But because I own food outlets, I said, 'You know how evil people will be, and they're going to say na-food poisoning ako sa restaurants ko.' E, hindi naman totoo.
“So sinabi ko, 'No, I'm not going.'”
It took a few more hours before Kris's doctor arrived at her house.
She continued, “My doctor who lives all the way in Ayala Alabang went all the way to the house.
"For some strange reason it was traffic, so umabot siya sa bahay ng mga 1:00 in the morning.
"At doon niya ako hinydrate, dahil nga sabi sa inyo matigas ang ulo ko.
“Talagang sabi ko na no kasi yung food poisoning or whatever happened will be blamed on me.
"And it wasn't me, and it wasn't any of my restaurants.”
It turned out, the culprit was the water she drank.
She learned a lesson that day, “Yung importance talaga nang making sure your water is clean, the health risk of dehydration is so real.”
She related Her sisters also scolded her for being stubborn, “Super napagalitan ako ng sisters ko.
“They said, 'Do you know that being dehydrated, allowing yourself to get dehydrated, not only are you risking your BP, puwede kang mag-stroke, but you can die.'
"Dehydration can actually kill you talaga, kapag hindi malinis ang ininom mo, ang laki ng puwedeng mawala sa 'yo.
“You really need good health, especially if you're the sole provider for the family and there are 40 people who earn a living because of you.
“Because of that carelessness of not drinking water... it caused me four days of pack-ups.
“Sa four days na pinack up na 'yon, may bayad na ako, dahil may bayad na kami sa reservation fee for the equipment.
“So may loss of income na ako for four days, napaabono pa ang kumpanya ko kasi nga di ako nakapagtrabaho.”
In the end, she reiterated, “Sobra talagang importante na malinis yung tubig.”
