Thea Tolentino names Kris Bernal as her fitspiration

Thea Tolentino says Kris Bernal inspired her to live an active lifestyle: "Si Kris toned siya 'tapos yung size niya tama lang sa TV. Ako kasi, malaki cheeks ko sa TV, so talagang boxing ako."


If there's one celebrity Thea Tolentino looks up to as her fitspiration, it would be Kris Bernal.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the 22-year-old GMA Artist Center talent revealed she got back into boxing to prepare for her newest teleserye Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko, which also stars Kris.

Thea said, "Sa tingin niyo payat na kami in person pero sa TV, malaki pa kami.

"So ngayon, sa bago kong show, ang katabi ko sa screen si Kris Bernal."

She further added, "Kasi si Kris toned siya, tapos yung size niya, tama lang sa TV.

"Ako kasi, malaki cheeks ko sa TV, so talagang boxing ako."

PEP.ph had a quick chat with Thea at the launch of Sperry CVO Sneakers 1935 last September 27, Thursday, at STKD Zeppelin, Brixton St., Pasig City.

Thea started boxing years ago on the prodding of fellow Kapuso talent Analyn Barro.

She said, "Niyaya ako ng co-artist ko, si Analyn Barro. In-invite niya ako nung 2015 pa.

"Masarap kasi yung feeling kapag pawis na pawis ka, parang gumagaan yung katawan."

Her boxing coach has been Fernan Espinosa of Fist Gym since then.

Aside from losing weight, Thea enjoys learning boxing techniques that she finds useful in action scenes.

"Natutuwa na rin ako, at the same time, kasi ang main purpose ko kaya boxing is for cardio, para makabawas [ng timbang].

"And habang nagba-boxing ako, natutuwa na rin ako kasi natututunan ko yung tamang position, yung tamang suntok.

"And posible ko siyang magamit sa work ko, kapag may kailangang stunts na gawin."

How often does she visit a gym?

"Siguro, pag masipag ako, mga five times a week. Pag sakto lang, mga three to four times."

Thea, however, had to stop boxing in 2017.

She explained, "So nung nasobrahan na yung payat ko, tinigilan ko muna ng one year.

"'Tapos kakabalik ko lang actually, this year."

Thea also tried weightlifting to tone her muscles under coaches Llexxi Hinojales and Aaron Yap of MS Fitness Gym.

"Kasi pag puro cardio lang, lalawlaw lang yung balat mo or ano.

"Mas okay pa rin talaga kapag toned."

She added, "Minsan kapag hirap na hirap ako, mabagal ako. Max ko na siguro mga two hours, pero kaya ko na siguro na one hour."

How about her diet?

Thea does not deprive herself of any food but admits to being conscious about her calorie intake. 

"Pinapakinggan ko pa rin yung katawan ko kung ano yung feeling kong kailangan ko."
