JM de Guzman has so far lost 12 pounds.
Since his series Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi ended its run in October 2018, he has been using his free time productively.
"After ng Araw Gabi, halos every day. Everyday ako dun, e, sa gym. Nag-lose ako ng 12 pounds in one month," he tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), with his eyes smiling.
What was his motivation?
Partly, he took the comment of ABS-CBN executives constructively.
The Star Magic talent says, "Sarili rin. Choice ko talaga.
"Actually, pagsasabihan ka lang naman ng mga boss na, 'Ang taba mo,' pero ikaw rin yung lalabas sa TV, e, ikaw yung makikita ng tao.
"At ikaw rin, nakikita mo sa salamin, di ba. Tumaba ako, e, sobra."
But aside from vanity, he's doing it for health reasons.
"Parang conditioning ng katawan mo, pag nagti-taping ka na, siyempre, nakakatulong din na yung kundisyon mo, kaya mo ang hirap at yung pagod sa katawan mo."
FITNESS AND DIET
The gym workouts have been pretty easy for JM.
"Araw-araw lang ako nag-box and wrestling and Muay Thai. Consistency kasi is important. Once you make it part of yung ginagawa mo araw-araw, minsan nakakalimutan mo, dalawang oras na pala ako sa gym."
At the launch of his new endorsement, JM Shawarma, on February 9, his physique is noticeably leaner.
Has he been dieting?
"Ngayon ko ginagawa yung diet. Kasi, after ko mag-martial arts, nagbuhat ako para toned 'tapos diet. Nagpa-fasting ako."
Intermittent fasting, according to Healthline.com., is establishing "an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting." Unlike most fad diets, it does not indicate which specific foods to eat, but rather, when they should be eaten?
How is it so far?
He admits, "Depressing pala siya at first. Nakakalungkot parang, 'Anong gagawin ko?'
"Mahirap. Mahirap na process bago ko mai-train ulit yung appetite ko na konti lang yung kainin ko."
He laughs after trying to find what can possibly be compared to it.
"May mga araw talaga na para siyang ano, e, para siyang, para siyang drugs. May temptation pero huwag, hindi dapat."
But his struggles have been teaching him discipline.
Still smiling, he says, "Ang sarap-sarap kumain pero kapag na-maintain ko na siguro.
"Kapag bumilis ulit yung metabolism ko na to the point na kahit kumain ako nang kumain, okay lang, dun na ako satisfied."
