Janine Gutierrez, 29, is saving up to have her own house. She currently lives in a condo unit.

Janine Gutierrez has been living in a condo for nearly three years.

But given her hectic schedule, she's often not home and, as she put it, "mas madaling iwanan ang condo."

Nevertheless, Janine is enticed by the idea of getting a house, and she's been saving up to buy one.

"I do really want. I really want to move to a house eventually," she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the launch of her latest endorsement deal in Makati City last July 16.

Although Janine admitted she still has a lot to learn about managing a household, she acknowledged that a condo is a good place to test her independence.

Janine shared, "When I moved out, it was more responsibility and kailangan mo talaga alamin what you should buy.

"Not only food or things like that, but also what you use to clean, what you use to wash your clothes.

"You have to be well-informed din kasi if you use the wrong thing, you could end up damaging your clothes... it's, like, really liberating to live on your own."

In fact, Janine chose a one-bedroom unit when she moved out of her family home so that she would be forced "to be alone and to learn how to do everything, like clean, cook, laundry, dishes, everything."

She does all the cleaning and tidying up of her unit most of the time, but when her work gets too busy, the actress said she has someone who comes to do those for her.

At the moment, Janine has been concentrating on learning how to manage her household finances.

She said, "Recently, like a few months ago, I started tracking my expenses, and I haven't gotten to the point na tsine-check ko talaga yung budget.

"Iyon nga yung gagawin ko dapat, pero that's on my list of things to do."

In a previous interview with PEP.ph, Janine encouraged young people to try to live on their own.

She then said, "I think sa mga ka-age ko or sa mas bata sa akin, if you're thinking about it, go. Do it.

"If you can't live alone, then live with your roommates, with friends. I think it really teaches you a lot about life and about being responsible.

"And it's also taught me din talaga about my waste. Kasi alam mo, kapag ikaw lumilinis, dun nakikita mo na—hala, ang dami na palang basura, di ba?

"So, dun ka din talaga mako-conscious about your lifestyle.

"Don't be scared. Alam ko scary siya sa una, but it's really rewarding in the end."
