Rhian Ramos looks back to the time she survived living alone in New York City, by way of saying she has adjusted to doing things on her own under enforced quarantine.
In an interview held on May 16, she says, "If I didn’t do the six months in New York, mag-i-struggle ako ngayon. Kasi mahirap, e...
"'Tapos ito pa yung nangyayari sa mundo, it would be hard for some of us.
"Yung mga first time mag-adulting, mahirap siya right now, e, kung hindi ka naman marunong to do all of your chores or to feed yourself...
"Dahil na-experience ko siya, it’s much more doable for me. Nagamit ko yung know-how ko in doing chores, in choosing matitipid na items that are good, things that you need to know when you’re taking care of yourself, like cooking.
"Nagamit ko siya lahat. Kung gaano kadalas ba dapat nagwawalis, things like that...
"Kung gaano ba kadalas dapat nililinisan yung buong bathroom or yung loob ng fridge, at least alam ko siya ngayon."
The 29-year-old Kapuso actress was in NYC during her six-month break from showbiz last year to pursue a short course on improv acting.
She joined the Upright Citizens Brigade, the group behind the UCB Theater, which "hosts the best and most innovative improv, sketch, stand-up comedy, variety shows, and cool/weird stuff that defies categorization."
She continues, "Nung una, ayaw kong yung nagwawalis, e, pero ngayon gusto ko na siya, kasi mabilis naman pala gawin, the moment you get better at it.
"Pag may form ka na, pag magaling ka na magwalis, ang bilis-bilis niya na lang. Ako yung nagwawalis, ako yung naglalaba. May machine kami, so hindi mahirap.
"Although ako din yung nagha-handwash ng ibang items."
However, she admits, "Yung pinaka-ayaw ko, ako yung naglilinis ng toilet ngayon."
HOW RHIAN WINGS IT UNDER ECQ
One of the challenges Rhian faced in the beginning of the lockdown is that the new order messed with her sleeping habits.
She managed to get her normal sleep cycle back by revamping her daily schedule.
She relates, "Nung nagawa ko na lahat, ang dami ko ng time. I worked on trying to sleep or creating a schedule para may structure yung araw ko.
"I try to wake up at 8 a.m. every morning, and then go to sleep at 11 p.m. every night.
"At saka gumawa na ako ng schedule of mga chores kasi siyempre, ako lang naman ang gagawa nun, di ba?
"So sa umaga... I make the bed, nagwawalis ako, I cook myself something, laundry, 'tapos once a week nagpapalit ako ng sheets, ganun...
"Nilagyan ko lang ng structure yung buhay ko para alam ko kung ano yung kailangang gawin."
At first, Rhian welcomed the idea of being forced to stay at home because it would allow her time for a lot of things she'd been wanting to do.
She says, "Actually for the first week, sobrang excited ko, natulog ako, ang dami kong pinanood na shows.
"Nagdownload ako masterclass, ang dami kong natutunan na bagong skills.
"Sabi ko that was my chance na gagawin ko lahat ng gusto ko na wala akong time gawin... So the only thing na I have to worry about is my feelings."
