Donny Pangilinan did a major home improvement during quarantine.
The Sunday Noontime Live performer renovated the basement of their family home, and turned it into his personal "man cave."
The twist? His parents Anthony Pangilinan and Marical Laxa-Pangilinan were clueless about the renovation until it was finished.
In his latest vlog entry posted December 1, 2020, the young actor-host explained why he decided to make their family basement a "quarantine project."
He said, "When our house was built, we built a basement, and that basement was supposed to be a place where we go down, we eat, we chill, we have drinks, listen to music, and all that.
"But that never happened. Like literally, we never went down."
The Pangilinan home was built on top of a hill and its basement was located at the foot of the hill.
Since it was an open air area, it had "lots of mosquitoes" so they didn't get to use it for its initial purpose.
Before the renovation, the basement was mostly used for storage and laundry.
Thinking it was a shame to have that much space left unused, Donny decided he would make it his "man cave."
The project was exciting for him since he also has an interest in interior design.
In the same vlog post, Donny showed fans how he had the renovations done within a week. Workers enclosed the area and installed glass panels and a sliding door within the first few days.
On the third day, Donny and two of his companions cleaned up the basement.
He envisioned his man cave to have a gym corner and a TV area where he could relax, play games, and watch movies with his friends.
He made that vision come to life on the fourth and fifth day of renovation.
Instead of installing a TV set, Donny got a projector instead and connected it to his laptop.
On the sixth day, the home improvement was done.
Donny then revealed his man cave to his entire family.
His mother Maricel exclaimed, "You've outdone yourself! This is too much!"
The basement is now a space where they can relax and bond, just as they intended it to be.
