Carla Abellana on doing household chores: "I love cooking. I don't mind cleaning. Laundry is very easy naman."

Carla Abellana took to doing household chores when the taping of her prime-time series Love of My Life was halted because of the coronavirus outbreak, and she was forced to stay home.

Talking to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Carla said she enjoyed cooking for herself and her boyfriend Tom Rodriguez, who has been staying with her even before the pandemic protocols were imposed.

She related, "Nung nag-quarantine, we didn't have a lot of choices. Bawal tayo lumabas.

"In my case, wala kasi kaming kasambahay, wala yung aking personal assistant, so we had to do everything ourselves.

"I admit there were times when we would just have food delivered. Pero actually, puwede naman palang hindi.

"We rely so much on delivery, on restaurants, fast food, cafés—na puwede naman palang hindi."

Carla pointed out that skipping food trips at expensive restaurants is one less expense during the pandemic.

She said, "We have food at home. For as long as we have food at home, we can prepare it ourselves, and mas makakatipid ka pa.

"So I can definitely do without all these mga kung anu-anong coffee or delivery.

"I can definitely do without them already and just prepare everything at home."

PEP.ph interviewed Carla during the virtual conference for Love Of My Life last December 22.

CARLA'S FAVORITE HOUSEHOLD CHORES

What are the household chores that she likes and what is the most exhausting for her?

Carla answered: "I love cooking. I don't mind cleaning. Laundry is very easy naman.

"It's the cleaning after the dogs siguro yung exhausting kasi hindi mo naman mako-control yung bladder nila.

"So maya't maya, you have to clean. After mo mag-sweep ng floor, mag-mop ng floor, hala may wiwi na naman.

"Everything else is actually madali."

Carla said she has always thought of household chores as some sort of training for wifely duties, and has just realized it wasn't such a bad idea.

"Yun ang akala ko, 'Okay lang, kaya ko, let's practice being a housewife.' Kaya iyan— cooking, cleaning..."

WHY CARLA CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HOUSEHELP

Going about doing chores at home has deepened Carla's appreciation for the help she gets from her kasambahay, admitting she still can't live without them.

She said, "Because of the quarantine period, mas na-realize ko, 'Shucks, grabe pala talaga yung trabaho nila.'

"Kailangan may system ka in place. Your body has to be physically ready also, yung endurance mo..."

A dog lover, what Carla found especially exhausting was taking care of the needs of her five dogs.

She said, "Hindi enough na mag-isa ka lang or dalawa kayo, lalo na if you have five dogs—mahirap.

"I would say there were also times when I would prioritize my dogs' needs over my own.

"Like, hindi bale na mawalan ako ng food, basta sila meron.

"Because of the pandemic, sobrang daming closed na clinics and pet shops. Ang hirap bumili ng dog food na very specific, not just the generic type.

"I cannot just feed my dogs table food all the time. Ang hirap. Hindi kaya talaga.

"Yung sa dogs, yung needs nila, especially because they're unable to play outside the house, so lots of energy na-build up.

"And of course bathing them, kasi I have five dogs, yun ang pinaka-physically taxing. Everything else, easy naman."
