Located in a suburban area south of Metro Manila, this modern two-story house of Cristine Reyes was spacious, but manageable in size.
The Kapamilya actress saw the house in September 2011.
By November 2011, she bought it and renovated for almost three months.
She herself oversaw the renovation process, with an eye for detail that bordered on the obsessive.
Though she had the help of an interior-designer friend, it was Cristine who essentially designed the interiors.
She shopped for the furniture herself or approved the made-to-order ones.
She also chose the color scheme of each room, sometimes in direct conflict with her interior designer’s suggestions.
This wasn’t Cristine’s first home.
Cristine’s first house was the family home in Marikina City’s Provident Village, a subdivision ravaged by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
Her second house was a townhouse she bought in Quezon City, right next to a unit she had earlier bought for her mother.
This particular house reflected her state of mind then.
While her Batasan Hills townhouse was decorated in tones of black and red, Cristine was determined that her southern residence would have none of that youthful, angsty vibe.
“Yung townhouse kasi, bagets ako do’n, e.
"Yong kuwarto ko, black yung wallpaper na may pink. ’Tapos, yung sa baba, red and black. Parang panahon ko ng teenager creativity, ganyan.
“Ngayon naman, relax-relax.
“Feeling ko kasi, nalampasan ko na yung stage na dark, wild, ganun.
“Ngayon, gusto ko na mag-relax. Relaxed na ako ngayon.
“Gusto ko lang, yung sa bahay lang ng friends ko, dinner lang, movie, coffee, ganun.
“Ngayon, gusto ko naman, light.”
Since her work is usually in Quezon City, "Kung gusto ko ng tahimik, dito ako.
"Calmer na state of mind ko dito."
Most of her friends also live in QC.
"Doon kasi sa Batasan, kahit sino, puwede ako puntahan, kasi super near."
So this modern house, which she saved up for, exuded an aura of calmness, brought about by her continued professional success as an actress and by the satisfaction of owning a place she has worked hard for.
She told the YES! team, “Nagmo-moment ako dito habang kumakain.
“Nandiyan lang ako, nakatingin, nagbe-breakfast ako dito mag-isa.
“Yun ang moment ko. Ang ganda ng bahay ko. Sabi ko, ‘Shit, nagawa ko ’to!' Di ko akalain.
“Kapag dito, parang peaceful, malayo sa lahat. May effort ’yong dadalaw sa akin.”
